Dumb Question...?

no boost = no turbo = low octane should be OK?? (especially if you've added the thicker head gasket or LC pistons)
The reason people are curious about this is that on the trail (or in the middle of nowhere, which is where I often ride) getting gas is not too much of a problem, but getting good premium is.

EXACTLY...If the guys selling these kits want to sell to the "general" riding population, this subject is what needs to be addressed. I am not saying that I don't WANT to run premium...I am saying that when I am in Mooseland, Ontario or something and there is one gas stop where the guy is pumping it out of a steel barrel behind his house, am I going to have a problem if the gas he is pumping is NOT premium grade....this happens more than you think. When riding 250 miles in a day, getting a hold of premium fuel may be a problem in some areas.

The nice thing I've noticed with our kit is when your rolling along at steady throttle pull your not on boost. It's only when you drop the hammer that you make boost. So in the event you were out and got questionable gas. I would dial the boost all the way down and run at a consistent throttle pull

You could also carry a high quaility Octain boost by a company like VP. that would also save your bacon.

Don't get me wrong I think you can run the RX-1 on 6 pounds on 87 octain I just don't think it would handle extreem conditions. But if you were make 500 to 700 foot pulls on low boost it might be ok. But if your can't get better then 87 octain all the time it would be frustrating.

the point is until either spray25 or RXfun have real knowledge of the kit so they should keep there "opinions" of it to themselves.

I'm not a turbo expert like you are, but I'd like to know if you have run one of your set-ups up a 2 mile long, 40 degree incline in powder that you can't even think about walking through.
I do know a little about doing this...... and unless you've gone side by side with a rear-mount, I wouldn't be so quick to slam these two guys.

To answer your question about mountain testing. We have a mountain tester

Jason, I'm glad to see you modified your response at least somewhat. However, I think it important to point out that your "mountain" tester has put on ZERO miles of actual mountain riding. I hardly think 15 miles of total riding on a trail that happend to be located in the mountains qualifies as mountain testing. Do you think that gives an appropriate result of how your kit does in the mountains? I don't.

I was simply pointing out we do have a Mountain Tester. This winter Ryan will be giving us valuable mountian Data.

Sorry if anyone was confused. [/code]
