Just wondering what guys running those oversized Yamaha hand guards think of them for wind protection on the coldest days. I'm running stock 2011 hand warmers and to keep warm have to put those big gauntlet handle bar muffs on to make the sled ridable in the cold. I don't like the look and feel of those big gauntlets so I was thinking of picking up some of the wind deflector hand guards to use instead. Want to make sure they actually work before dropping the cash.

I only picked mine up late this year so can't comment on the really cold days. They won't do what gauntlets do but I can say that I notice a considerable difference having them on.

I have the Dumbo ears, I have the yamaha windshear 1/2 gauntlets made by skins and I have the Powermadd full gauntlets that go over the handgaurds ( I use them with the Yamaha handgaurds )This season the only thing that really felt good were the Powermadds. I don't like using gauntlets but on long cold days it was the only thing that worked. The gloves I wore the most this year were my Yamaha Leathers and my Klims and I was not impressed with either of them. I could feel all kinds of heat from my grips but my hands were just cold. I know it was from the wind because when the gauntlets were on my hands were warm. I have smashed so many of my fingers that if they get cold the pain is almost unbearable. Next season I'm going to try some different heated glove options.

skinz Heat loc!
best hand guard
warm and flexible.
i'm running these since the beginning of the winter.
No windshield and left handwarmer not working.
Never had hand cold.
Plus, if you do some powder, you can roll your sled without damaging them.

I have the Yamaha (dumbo ears). I have not had any issues with them.Use to have cold hands riding at 20 deg f. I have ridden at -5 deg f with no issues and a lot of times have to turn the warmers down. I believe gloves play a big part as well. The best glove I have found and I have tried all kinds is a glove made by Grandoe (Rockford model )(gortex 2 gloves in 1) . your hand can go inside the glove in either the warm side or the grip side. I use the grip side when temps above 34 deg f. I have always had cold hands so finding the right combo is imperative.

Hmmm, thanks for the replies gents! So it sounds like I'll have to keep riding with my Powermad gautlets when it's super cold it guess or break down and get the Yamaheaters someday. Nothing wrecks a ride like cold hands.

dumbo ears

I thought my dumbo ears worked awesome for keeping the hands warm and I am a big sally when it comes to hand warmth, and bonus if you want a pair of white ones I have a pair that were only used once for sale (sick of breaking the aluminum mount), so I am going with gauntlets for riding to the play area and then taking them off when I get there.

check for the skinz heat loc. No more roken aluminium bracket !

Bought a pair of ski Doo gauntlets at Christmas time, they are great. Black tape over the Doo, lol. Looking for an embroiderer to fix the Doo part, but with the guards off, they look and fit good and my hands are really nice and warm, even without Rocks yamaheaters!

check out coldguards.com , bought a set of these a couple years ago and they work great, they fit on behind the stock hand guards and are made of some kind of marine cover material that blocks all wind but the gauntlet stays open for your hand . check them out , best 40 bucks I`ve spent for the very cold days and they are easily removed when it warms up (have the dumbo ears also but they don`t quite do the job on the really cold days . oh yea that was our whole season here in WI. LOL )

I'm interested in them...pm me

I rode on so,e chilly days. I have the yamaha (fxr) gauntlet gloves and the powermadd hand gaurds with extensions. Left hand warmer on nytro doesn't work and the right .... Well it's a nytro. And my hands on 0deg days weren't bad at all. And I wouldn't even want to turn the hand warmers up. I plan to get them fixed and the extreme reflash just so it's "fixed" but that's it.
