I have recently had trouble with the engine idling.
Starts easy but will shut down after warming up unless
the throtle is held slightly open.
Just replaced the spark plugs for he first time (4200 kms)
Made no difference.
There is a hose running across the top of the carbs, drops down to base area it is not connected at lower end should it be??
Any suggestions?

Had the same problem with my TF. Those hoses are your carb vents. My battery was wedged against one of them and it would not idle with that one carb not venting..its acts the same as if it fouled a plug

If the previously mentioned ideas don't work, try synching the carbs. Mine ran very poorly after 500 miles of hard use. After a set of plugs and a tune up with my vacu-mate it ran like new again and hasn't had any issues.

Tune up seems to have worked. At least it will idle now have to wait for snow to see for sure.
