Could the wear problem be caused by a small window in the track and the new wider hyfax blocking the opening ? BIG BLACK WARRIOR might have the answer if the older narrower hyfax fit.

You might be on to something here. A bunch of other guys (Scooby's group) have said the burning smell goes away with the old style slides installed. Personally after 27 years of sledding (often in very marginal conditions) I've never smelt burning hyfax like my RX-1 and Flippers Vector do.
You're suggestion makes sense. On a typical sled (narrow hyfax/large window openings) at the front of the track there would be a lot of air blowing into the track through the gaps just as the track gets close to the ground. I'm sure there would be a pile of snowdust in the air in that area and that would blow through the gaps.
Also, all along the bottom of the sled there is bound to be some air flow throught these gaps, including at the rear. Since the track has just been pounded into the snow there would be tons of snowdust sortof trapped between the lugs.
I think my next set of hyfax will be the tried and true narrow style.

Today, I went to the dealer for the first oil change and check up. When I saw the mechanic thightening the track, I asked him if it was lose and he anwered "yes, I gave it two and a half turn". On my way back (15 miles), on the same trail, the sled felt as if the brake stayed on, as if the hyfax was sticking to the track. Back at my shed, I removed two turns on the tensioner bolt. So, track tension seems to have a big effect.

My 05 Warrior is close to the line on sliders in less than 300 miles. Not and the front bend but inbetween the front wheels and the back wheels. The rest of the slider has minimal wear.

Dealers drive me nuts the way they overtighten tracks.. The first thing I do after bringing a new sled home is putting some slack in the track...This has worked for me for years... I go anywhere between 3,000/5,000 miles before needing my hyfax changed..I have 165 miles on the Vector with no visible wear... MM.
