I have read topics on exhaust donuts until I was passing out and dreaming of cream filled chocolate doughnuts... lol..
So I have an 06 RTX with over 3000 miles... I did not notice any ticking, backfireing, or any symptom of my donuts being shot BUT... From what I have been reading its rare for someone to go more than 3500-4500 miles on one of these sleds without the donuts going and/or the Y pipes cracking.. I have 4 brand new donuts in the garage ready to be installed, I don't want to have down time during the winter so I usually do everything I can to be proactive during the summer... Should I just go ahead and change my donuts right now since I have new ones in the garage and then I won't have to worry about them going 1/2 way through winter next season.... OR... Should I leave well enough alone and maybe mine will be fine???
Im not sure if its better to just leave them if they are working, or replace them while I have the time and the stupid warm weather...
Just looking for everyones input... THANKS GUYS!!

replace them now. downtime during riding season sucks. if any are still good then they become spares.

Thats just what I was thinking, nothing pisses me off more than sitting on the couch on a weekend listening to all the sleds go by and knowing mine is down... Thats why I bought a yamaha in the first place... Thanks guys!!!!

I changed mine this spring with about 4200 miles on the originals. All 4 of them had degraded somewhat. They might have made it through one more season, but I'll have a better feeling this year knowing their not going to let me down during the riding season. If you don't have ready access to a heated workshop, I would highly recommend changing them now. I can't imaging doing this job in the cold.

Does the RTX's ypipes crack like the Apex/Attack's? If so I'd change them now while your doing the donuts. Donuts alone wouldn't help my Attak. About $240 for donuts and SS pipes from Yamaha

I changed mine this year. I have about 1600 miles on my Attak. They were showing some wear but were still good. I had the seat out, tank off and rear skid out so I figured I would just go ahead and do it.

Are all of Yamaha sleds prone to needing the donuts changed or is it just particular models?
I currently have my suspension out of my Vector, it has 2100 miles and it has crossed my mind???

Hey irv...
you should be ok... depends alot on riding style... I did the RTX at 7000 miles first time... they were degraded... I am tearing into the 40th over the next few weeks... donuts/bushings/maybe going 144... sled has 7300, and i can hear it getting alittle louder.. so i know they are shot.

What sucks is I had my seat off and suspension out about 2 weeks ago but didn't have the donuts yet so I put it all back together and now I have to pull it all apart... BUT... Im going on vacation to Nova Scotia for a couple weeks so it will have to wait until I get back..

Irv - I replaced them in my 06 Vector at 6000 miles. It needed them way before that. 1 was completely gone....

Donuts must last better in New Brunswick Jason. Better air here I guess, or donut batter or both. LOL
.
10,000 plus KM on my Apex GT and the donuts are fine.
Let me know when you are doing the 40th I may pop across the road and give you a hand or at least have a wobbly pop and watch.

Thanks guy's, good to know.
With my machine only having 2,100 miles(3,400km's) I think I will wait at least another year.
