Was looking things over on my 04 RX-1 and noticed the tops of the limiters straps on my expert x skid were beaten up almost right through the strap. I think it is the drive lugs on the track contacting it. Track tension was a little loose 1 3/4 sag with no weight. What could be causing this? At the time i had the straps nice and tight.

I just tightened my limiters as well. Seems like when I went down a hole the cross shaft were the straps wrap around are not tight to the shaft anymore. I think when I hit a bump the strap loop will hit the cogs? Almost thinking of putting it back were it was. I think it will do what you are talking about. Wearing the top of the straps??
My hyfax are wearing at the bend in the rails. How loose should I go with the track? I am about the same as you with 1 3/4 sag with no weight.

Same boat as you! Started the season with the straps loose to have some fun with wheelies but then decide to tighten them up to make it handle. Wore the tops almost right off. I guess as the suspension compresses the straps loosen off and can come in contact with the drive lugs of the track. Im looking into a more durable replacement strap. As far as track tension you could back it off till it ratchets and then tighten it a couple turns. I would be careful if you have studs ive seen some tunnels have some scaring when you let off the throttle very fast. What machine you have this has been done on 03 RX-1 that dont have tunnel protection near the drive sprockets.

Mine is a 2002 Viper. Just got done putting on new hyfax. Going to loosen the track some more to see if it helps the hyfax wear. I have been riding in plenty of snow so that isn't a issue with the wear. Just worried about the straps.

Thats the last thing we need is to have those straps break and flip the thing over! Ive gotten two ideas so far from members here, one is drive belts from a combine and seat belt straps all cut to length. I wish i could find out the problem you think with all the people that own these skids someone would have a fix!

I was thinking of adding another bolt closer to the crossbar to tighten the loop to the crossbar so the slack will be less on the cog side. Sounds like a easy fix but I want to get it to were I like it and make one hole in each strap.

Everybody;
The real fix for this is a DTR kit. It is included in all RECENT expertX suspensions 121"+, and absolutely all 144"+. It pulls in the straps as the suspension compresses in order to maintain more predictable handling and to help the suspension climb up on top of deep snow instead of trenching. I think they cost about $100.

How loose/tight should the limiter straps be?
Also is there anyway of lowering the suspension?
Mine is jacked up in the air quite a bit, - looks like a drag car
granted I'm only 150lbs... Preload on springs is turned down on theads withing 1/4" of btm & the turnable adjusted is on the softest notch. (shocks have been revalved - probably a little stiff since there is not very much sag.) I don't remember what the adjusted is called that rotates the btm shock shaft but it is back almost all the way - there is just a nylock nut between..
One more thing.. what hole does the "overload" spring go in? The smaller one on top or the bigger one on the btm?
Thanks

the straps are loose when sitting on the floor, and can be shortened to limit transfer when riding. the 18mm bolt that connects to the bottom shock shaft will control height, as it changes shock mounting position. the overload holes determine when the springs kick in relative to suspension travel. i drilled a third hole half inch from the top of the arm as i found the kickback was coming from the overloader springs over powering the shocks. this allowed the suspension to compress about 80% before the springs engage. there are at least 2 sets of coils made for these skids and mine are the firm ones. others that have the weaker springs should probably not do this mod.

There is only one stock overload hole and it should be obvious as it's the only hole with a sleeve pressed in.
I have a DTR kit I'd sell if anyone wants one.
