Expert X on RS Vector

Has anyone out there installed an Expert X suspension on their Vector??? I know quite a few have on the RX-1 but I haven't seen anyone who has done it on a RS sled. I was thinking of adding Ohlins to my stock suspension but it sounds like a stiff ride. Just wodnering how much better the Expert X would be versus the stock suspension.

The X is a good skid but you're right, very few people have done an install on a Vector, that I have seen. I know that the RX-1 has special plates to guide you during the install, I would imagine the Vector would use a similar method.

Since the tunnel is the same, you would use the same mounting kit. It goes in really easy - just make sure that you measure twice and drill once.

Well unfortuantely I don't have a mono skid on my '05. I might look into the bender aftermarket suspension as well.

I was wondering why you were getting a expert x. That explans it I thought you had the 06. my mistake

I am thinking at some point of going to the mono,But I am going to wait and see how the thing holds up this year with the upgrades, Last year allot of guys were not to happy. They should have the bugs out this year, But time will tell. at least the vector skid has had no problems that I know about.They also left this in the the nyto for ditch banging. I am not sure with my extra weight 240lbs the vector might be a good ride for me.i

Are you still running with the Flo-Commander?
Are you still having to check your plugs quite offen?
Did it make much of a difference?
Is there alot of tinkering with it or once it's installed, can you leave it alone?

Yes I am still running with the flo commander installed. And as far as having to check plugs, I rarely check mine at all. Only if we are drag racing do i pull the plugs to check to see that they are burning properly. Once it's installed it's pretty much good to go. The hardest part about adjusting them is removing the cover on the airbox. As far as it making a difference I am not sure because I ripped off the carbs and sent them out to Steve for flow bench testing before I had a mile on the sled so I had nothing to compare it to.

I can't believe the Pro-Active in your vector is that bad? I only ditched the Pro-Action in my RX-1 because it just couldn't hold-up, even after I got it to ride good. I averaged 1 W-arm per season - that was enough!

If you go Ohlins, just make sure you buy them from someone who can set them up for you first. I recommend Bruce @ Pioneer Performance. Don't just order them out of the Yamaha catalog because they will more than likely be too stiff.

Well for normal trail riding the suspension is adequate. But I am not a small guy weighing in at 270 lbs. The suspension just has too much rebound on beat up trails. I like the idea of getting a ohlins for the rear and revalving the center shock so thats probably the route i am going to go instead of totally replacing the skid. The bottoming out has got to stop or I'll be in traction instead of riding.

Rsvector I was looking into the expert also,but I'm getting a 136" kit from rich motorsports and going to go to pioneer performance for the rear suspension.

i had one in my Vector last year. It worked fine. Those skids are pretty tough. i managed to get a 16" wide 144" under it too>>>

Anything in particular you want to know about it??? the ride is a little better than stock. and you have ALLOT more travel on those really deep hits.....it's durable more than anything. I tried Elka and Fox shock under it too...nothing worked or held up like the stock shocks.

Just curious...why the X versus an M-10?
I thinking M-10 for my 'o5 Vector. Nobody seems to have a surefire solution (shocks, springs, etc) to getting the rear skid to give me the plush, M-10 like ride I'd like to have. So instead of going the "maybe" route, I'll for the "for sure" route with a new skid.

Because M10 drives like a tank, is high in maintenance, and falls flat on its face against suckerbumps.

Oh, and it also robs you of 5+ mph on the top end.
