expert x skid

I have a few questions about the install, the skid is a 136" right now but I want it to be a 144", is it a good idea to just move the skid back 4" or get rail ext......also are the measurements the same as the 121" install in the tech tips if I get rail ext?

what is included in the Apex specifc install kit?

I bought mine used so I can't speak 100% for the kit. I believe its the spacers that go inside the tunnel. I made my own mounting plate as the kits plate didn't cover the RA dial hole. I have 121" X with extensions to 136" and then I moved it back 3.5" for a 144" track. I did the set back so I would have a better approach angle. If you plan on getting the extensions to go 144" you will mount it like the tech tips shows. to set it back you just go back 3.5-4"

Cool thing with the Expert X 136" skid It's several inches longer then the stock 136" skid. So when we measured the actual track on the ground I was only 2" shorter then the other 144" sleds I ride with. I would say doing the extensions you would have the foot print of a 146-148" skid.

Muffin works has the extensions. He can make what ever length you need. Just call or email him if they're not on his web site. Super awsome to work with.

how's trail riding with the expert set back?

I do alot of trail riding and wanted the tipped rails, I have that setup on my mono right now and love it

I had my mono set up awesome for trail, so I would say its a light sacrifice going to the X set back. I was told the set ack was going to make the steering heavy and I was going to loose weight transfer. In my case this isn't true. It took few adjustments to get back to handling how I like it so it does good on the trails now (cornering). Through the bumps, studders and woops it just soaks it up. I've hit some pretty big holes with it already. I've been into the secondary spring a few times and they work awesome to prevent bottoming out. At this point in my riding trails are mostly used to get off the trail. I'm sure I could get it dialed in better for trail. So be prepared to make suspension changes on trail.

I was browsing your pics and seen one with an anti stab kit, do you have those installed on the expert x?

Yes. They are on the X. I was advised by other members to get them with any setback. I rode a couple hundred miles before I installed them. Viper Dave has ridin two seasons without them. Something to note, expert X rails are thicker then a standard rail so you will have to grind them a wee bit to have them fit I got mine from cecomponent. Com. I was able to use the rail cap holes to mount them. Just had to drill the holes larger and cut some of the hyfax to clear the spacers for the boggy wheels.

If you need a mounting kit, I have one new from AD Boivin kickin around for a few years. All the manuals, some extra and kit was never used (bailed on project)

I need you to be more specific on the measurement you need. there are several mounting plates for the kit. one mounts outside the tunnel and two are in the tunnel for the front and rear. two sets of adaptors one set for the front and one for the rear.

Did you buy it new from ADBoivin? Did you get the mounting kit for the Apex?

I bought the kit used and it has the mounting plats for the outside of the tunnel but I need the know how wide are the mounting plates on the inside of the tunnel that way I can make some at work tonight

2 5/8" x 3 9/16" 16ga stainless steel. I don't think the size is so inportant as its the rivets surounding it. I beleave they give the correct rivet placement in the tech write up. with the set back I had to cut some of the heat exchanger to get the inner plates in.

I used the measurements that where given in the instructions for the front hole 6 7/16" down from top of tunnel and the rear 5 9/16". I could give you the set back measurements, but that would take away from your experience.

Ive only heard of that with the stock skid setback. Go to AD Boivin site and download the installation instructions. I'm 99% sure I used the the measurements that I gave earlier. Plus I don't think there is an inch to spare for the rear mounting location. Once again, all is covered in the instructions.
