I only have had the opportunity to put 100 miles on my new 07 Attak. My first impression is WOW. I dont get to ride more than once or twice a year since I live in Southern Indiana. Our annual trip to Northern Wisconsin has been delayed due to poor conditions.
We actually got enough to ride this week in Indiana. My first few miles I thought it had too much torque and it seemed jumpy. After riding it for 10 miles or so I switched with my 14 year old son and switched back to my 700 SxR. What a difference! Now, neither of us want to ride the 700 as it seems old and out of date. I was concerned with making the upgrade that I wouldnt notice much difference. I would liken this change to when I switched from my old 340 to a 600XTC. It is a night and day difference.
I am not sure I will have the stones to pull the throttle open when I cross Lake Gogeibic in 10 days. The midrange power is like I have never felt before. I was going down a road at about 65 and punched the throttle ;it threw me back. Unbelievable.
The naysayers in my group (all with Yamaha 700s) will say that they like to throw their triples around the trails. They will say they like to "ride" a sled rather than on top of one." But in reality, I now know that is CODE for "my wife wont let me buy one."
Now I am thinking I need to get rid of my backup 700 and posssibly get another Attak or even a Pfazer for my 14 year old son.
Here's to a great wife and hanging out with old school buddies that will be left in the dust.

Even tho my son's at 14 had several years of experience (and were excellent snowmobilers) I would't have dreamed of putting them on an Attak. I have one and like you say there is "a night and day difference" between a 700 and an Attak. 14-year olds think they are "indestructible." IMHO-- ANY 150hp sled is WAY TOO much sled for the younger guys (and for anyone with little/no experience sledding).

An excellent point, thank you. My kid is very conservative but your point is well taken. Would you consider a Rage even? I tend to keep things for 5 years or so. He will start making the trip with us in the next few years. Do you think a Pfazer GT would be appropriate? I could always keep my 700 but it seems so out of date after riding the ATTAK. Thanks again for the concern and advice.

The Phazer is a perfect young guy sled...It'll do alot of the things he's (probably) most interested it...ie screwing around lol. I know back in those years (14-18) I would have loved that style of sled. It may not have the topend of the 700 but it'll be alot more fun!!

DoktorC is probably right on - if-- you really want to spend another $6grand right now. If it were me, I'd leave him on the 700 for a few more years and let him gain even more experience. A 700 is no slouch, easy to "throw around" and is a good reliable sled that most 14-year olds would love to have/ride...

I agree, i love my sx 700r and still like to jump on it at times just for that reason, it's easy to throw around and a blast on the twisty trails.

After riding my RX the SXR feels OLD...I actually can't stand riding a proaction sled anymore lol. I really wasn't trying to talk him into buying a new sled..I just thought the phazer is a better option for a young guy then an Attak. At 14 I had a '78 RV so...an SXR would have been amazing too!!

I never owned a sled before I bought my '06 Attak on Dec. 28th., I had been on a few sleds before but nothing serious.
That being said I was a little nervous the first few days of riding, this sled has gobs of torque and power and can push you back in the seat. I would never consider putting a 14 yr. old rider on a Attak, you should be able to get some really good deals on a leftover Phazer right now.

I have a 15 year old daughter and a 12 year old son. My daughter is a little on the hot rod side of things and my son very conservative. Both of my kids have drove my 05 RX1 with mods. They are not allowed to let if fly on top end but my daughter loves to get on it out of the hole and short runs. Last year she spent a lot of time on my HTG 900 Ultra with 200 hp. She would rip it around the yard and stand it on the tail from time to time. There are kids 15 years old racing pro.
I agree that these sleds are a hand full and not sure it would have been a good idea for me to ride one when I was 15. Heck I had a ton of fun on my 340 Enticer. But not long after that I had moved up to a 79 SRX, what a sled!
We do have to be carefull and make sure they don't get hurt.
Enjoy the sled.
