Well, we got about 2' of snow in the last 48 hours so the Mrs and I suited up and ventured out on some unplowed back roads and two tracks. My belt started squealing at idle. I had just added shims to the three bolts on the back side of the secondary clutch to see how much more life I could get out of the belt. We headed back home to remove shims and when I turned into the driveway I noticed coolant dripping out near the reverse lever. It turns out that I forgot to tighten a hose clamp near the reservoir when changing the coolant this fall.
I now have a mess to clean up under the hood.
I was also testing my new Yamaha Ridge pants along with some new thermal underwear. Temperature is around 32 F and now I'm drenched. Definitely over dressed! The new Duece bars (4.5") seem to work well turning in deep snow. Anyway, it felt great to get out even if the ride was short.

Better on a short ride then out in the middle of nowhere.
Good thing you did catch it early.

glad the title was "short ride" rather than "disasterous ride"

I guess it's always good to do a shake down run close to home. I got lucky. The sun came out and the temperature stayed just above freezing for a couple hours while I cleaned up the mess. A few buckets of warm water did the trick and the coolant was only down maybe 2 cups. The belt and clutches never got any coolant on them so the squealing was due to the shims I added. It was nice and quiet after removing the extra 1mm shims. I guess the belt isn't ready for them yet. I ran it hard for a while to dry everything out and make sure the coolant level stayed good. Hopefully it's ready for the rest of the season now!
