I liked the sled overall it was very snappy surprisingly. I had a couple of problems though. 1.) I got stuck in some water not even 2 inches deep and i got stuck so the oil light and service light came on. After i got it unstuck i started it and they went off. That scared me a little. Also we rode for about 80 miles and the gauge said it only had one bar to go before empty. I thought these sleds were suppose to get awesome gas mileage. The sled was on full when i left for my ride so I don't know. My brothers and my dads sled still had plenty of gas left and they were driving an SRx and a Viper. Any suggestions on why such awful gas mileage. This is an 03.

check when you fill it.

Check how many gallons it takes when you fill it.I had the same problem The warning light came on and I rode for another hour came home and filled the next day and it only took 5 gal .1/2 tank .I don't think the gas guages are very acurate on these machines. The warning light would come on then show 1 line left on guage then awile lator show 4 lines. But they are a great machine other than that .When you get to know how far you can go on mileage you are better to go with the odometor anyway. :4STroke:

How much fuel did it take to fill the tank back up??

Usually my fuel gauge will read about 2 bars left at 80 miles... But when i fill it, it only takes 6 gallons.. Meaning, it still had 4 gallons of gas left!

You should get 140-150miles out of a tank... If you run it down to fumes..

Vipers get about 14mph... Yours should be getting altleast that, if not 15-17mph on an average...

It is my THEORY that the harder you rides these sleds the better the gas milage... I think it has something to do with the clutches shifting out at higher speeds!

They purposely set the guages to give the owners a very large safe vone to get gas..

If They actually said E when it was empty... There would be alot of guys stranded on the trails needing gas.. ... Its easy too loose sense of time and milage out on a trail!

when mine is at a half tank i fill it with 3 gallons. the gas gauge is very innacurate. I do like going 20 miles and still having every bar on there and the gauge saying full. The 2 stroke guys dont like to see that :D

Welter, you are correct. I check mileage...on cars, sleds, etc. Not to be cheap, but mileage or a significant change is the first indication of something (bad) happening for whatever reason. My absolute best mileage (not always checked, as this is the first sled I'll take off on with just a few bars showing..still good for at least 50 miles) was 16.1 on a very fast 215 mile ride, including 6.5 miles of WOT racing and beating a 2001 Machz on a reservoir. My light goes on with one bar..but point downhill, and 3 bars show. Go uphill, and the light is back on. Make sure you are level, and when the last bar and light first shows, it is safe to say there is at least 3 gallons left...this is exactly the same on both my 03's.
I personally think the sweet spot is around 8,000 rpm for overall power and efficiency with stock clutching.
