TY 4 Stroke Master
Well guys, I had my first ride on the MTX SE 153 yesterday. Conditions were excellent for it's maiden voyage, about 2 feet of fresh pow and some nice big drifts to play in, and play is exactly what I did.
The first thing I noticed was how little a difference there was in the feel of length compared to my 121 RTX. Most of the time I couldn't tell that I was riding a 153. The only time I could really tell the difference, and I can only comment positively, was when I was in deep snow, and when I would come up and over big drifts. The fun factor of this sled is amazing ! Side to side carving was effortless, more than likely due to this sled having no sway bar. Once, I almost had the sled completely on it's side during a series of S turns, it was that easy to throw around ! And a few times, I lost track of my line in the powder and let off the gas, assuming I was going to need a lift out, but the sled picked up and went like I was on a groomed trail. I was totally amazed with how well this sled worked in the pow. I had the sea level adjustments made from the dealer, and the 22/40 gearing felt more than enough for me, while the clutching felt good as well. The front and rear shocks felt awesome. I'm running 80 lbs in the front, and 125 lbs in both rear shocks, and the ride was very plush yet still offering excellent bottoming resistance. I was very concerned about this, because I do sometimes land flat and harsh off jumps, but this suspension soaked it up better than expected, must be the new Float 2's in the rear. The skis handled well and kept the front floating well, still a bit of darting on the trail, but nothing serious. The only thing I am concerned about so far is the track. I had to ride over approximately 5-7 kms of trail where there was less snow, while the rest of my day was about 70% powder, and the lugs are already folding over. I'm not quite sure how bad they are compared to previous Mav tracks, as I have nothing to compare it to, but it is noticeable. I am considering cutting the lugs down to 1.75" if it gets any worse, but I'll keep an eye on it and decide after a few more runs. Overall, this sled was everything I expected and more ! I just can't wait to get out on it a few more times with even more snow to open up the potential of this animal
