I thought i would give some thoughts on changing oil and filter after completing my first change. Anyone on the fence about doing it yourself, I say go for it. It really is not bad at all. Just take your time piece by piece and lay everything out in order that you took apart. Heres some tips. Get right size phillips head driver for lower side panel. They are tough the first removel. When removing headlight assembly push forward toward front of sled, then up and keep an eye on threaded bolt inserts. Remove electrical connections from batter box holder before romoving. Their just held on by rubber gromets. Lift battery holder toward clutch side first then up and out. You'll have to pull wire harness out of the way while your doing this. Most importanly find right size filter wrench for filter. One that goes down to 2.5 inches worked great.(Ace hardware)Just make sure to get it as close to gasket side of filter as possible an keep tighting up till its tight and handle is pointing up for better leverage, because filter is pretty tight the first time. Some people recomended using screwdriver through center and turning, but the filter is such soft metal I think that should be last resort. I recomend spraying brake cleaner under filter area to clean up oil drippings. That way you'll se if there are any leaks when running first time, and know it not just old oil collecter in pan area. It took about 3.5 Qts to fill up. So dont let other post about this topic scare anyone off , do it yourself. I know dealers in southern wis. are so backed up with repaires you could be waiting a while to get it done, and probably not cheap. Good luck.

I put Yamalube 0-30 semi-syn. It comes in a new packaged bottle if you do go with it. (silver instead of black), so dont be concerned , its same oil. One other note about changing the oil, make sure before you start to buy extended allen socket drivers for airbox boots. Their in there pretty deep. I bought 5 inch ones that worked just about right. good luck.

Don't forget to clean the screen on the bottom of your oil reservoir, be caredful when re-assembling it to get the "O" ring back in its place...

This sreen p/u all kinds of little debris, I usually clean it w/brake cleaner in a spray, it only takes a few minutes extra and a good practise to clean it everytime you change your OIL...

My 2 cents,
I remove the whole light pod and bracket at the same time. Just unplug wire harnesses and remove the four bracket bolts.
I also bought a cap style oil filter wrench. Use a 3/8 breaker bar with it, because a ratchet will not fit. This works great.
I tried a regular filter wrench, and made a big mess when the filter got crushed.
Peace.
