Was riding Christmas day with my son, both of us on 05 Warriors. I was doing about 40 mph on the trail and had a rod go thru the block. I pulled off the side of the trail and when I shut the ignition off, the sled blew up and caught fire. Scared the s$^t out of me. I got the fire out with the help of my son. We suffocated it with snow.
Got the sled home and took it to the local dealer. The rod took out the block, head, valves, and crank. The air box, few hoses near oil tank, few wires, hood, side panel, and belly pan where burned and melted.
Have to give a special thanks to the dealer. LONG ISLAND YAMAHA in HICKSVILLE, NY. I did not purchase the sleds there, but they did "the right thing". They contacted Yamaha, and got me a new motor in the crate. They also got my sled fixed and running in less then a month. Mechanic said the rod broke, could have been a cast flaw. Guess s*%t does happen. He also told me that was their first Yamaha 4 stroke snowmobile engine that came in blown.
I also owe a big thanks to Yamaha and Deeana, from customer relations. She was very helpful and did a big part in speeding up the process to get my sled running so quickly.
I am sure glad I took out the YES warranty, as the sled was over a year old.
I know where I will be buying my next sled.

Glad your happy it only took a month - I sure wouldn't be. Our season is short enough as it is.
Good deal Yam took care of ya though.

Glad to hear Yamaha came thru for you. Thay have for me a number of times. I have never been let down by their warranty!
Personally, I would have let it burn to the ground. I hear about sleds that catch on fire and people actually get close and try and put them out. If there is any more than a gallon of gas in it...I am getting no where near the thing!
All I know is if I ever have one burn...I say pull out the marshmallows and call the insurance agent!

Yea tough call. In the heat of the moment, no pun intended, when I saw my $9000 sled with flames coming out, my first reaction was to try and put it out. Lots of thinking after. But I can say it turned out well, and I am happy with the results. Did a ride up at Old Forge this past week end and the sled ran great.

That's all that matters. You have a sled that runs good and still a bit of winter to ride yet. I Think a month is not all that bad considering how the sled must have looked...and a blown motor...
