This is one of the differences between the LTX-SE and the LTX-DX. Although we ride fast I'm still after the softest available ride. If it's too rough we just slow down. Opinions on these two shock packages? Rear suspension is the same.

DX models will have the softest ride. There is some unknown with these new shocks on the SE models but I would guess they are going to be valved for more aggressive trail riding.

yap, hard to say, because it is rumored the QS3-R's are less stiff then last year so all bets are off on the valving of the shocks on this new beast.. my guess is go for the touring valving because when Yamaha sells a sled for bumps.. its toooo stiff usually...

I had a Viper 2015 RTX DX and I gotta say that is one smooth ride, I was very impresed with how well the sled rode and really smoothes out the trail chatter plus capable when the trails got real rough. Throw in the high windshield and heated seat and she's a real good cruiser, but also can be ridden just as fast as any other Viper.
Yes it's mostly in the valving. The Zero Pros have a better wiper than the HPG/ACT shocks which are a copy of Fox. Tough call without riding to know.

I was/am in the same boat but on the cat side of things. Was a toss up for me between sno pro having the same as the SE and the LXR having the same as the DX. I ended up with the LXR as over the years I have heard how stiff or firm the cats ride, and I want to be as close to my old r-motion as possible as per ride plushness so I ended up with the LXR. We ride like the O.P., fast but if things get that bad we just back down a tad. I figured it is easier to go stiffer than it is to try and get that plushness we are after.

I have the SE and the reason I got it was mostly the orange color. I have to say the graphics are very good for a Yamaha .. No offense to anyone here at all. Just always felt that Cat had the best graphics(colors even) over the years.. The SE orange is pretty tight. Going to get rid of a lot of the bigger areas of grey on mine. Shocks I actually like the PLUSH ride and IMHO the SE will be a lot softer and ALOT LESS aggressive of a shock(compared to the LE - big bump shock?). I ride hard on flat trails and back it down on the rough stuff. time will tell
