Hey guys, I'm picking up an 08 RTX this fall and want to know if anyone uses reservoir kits for the floats..whether it be Hy-Gear, Muffin Works, Fett Brothers and so on. I have read that this will help make the Fox Floats a little softer over the stutter bumps...can anyone using these give a review...I tried a search but didn't come up with much

The extra air capacity let's you maintain a little extra ride height without excessive pressure.......if that makes any sense?

Or you could say you can run more pressure without making the front too stiff when in the chop/stutters?

Or....???

Crap, I have them, I like them, and believe they were a good investment in front end handling/ride. What more can I say?

I believe the air volume in the resi chamber is criitical to your application. Too much/too little very apparent! FWIW -Al

I would not buy a set that did not allow for adjusting the air volume of the resi. HyGear gets top dollar for anything he sells/does, but if you check his out closely, I think you'll see there's some extra value involved when compared to the others?

The Nextech resi's aren't bad either. Mine have performed flawlessly, easily adjust to conditions on the fly if necessary.

Fett ones are very basic and in my view not for someone who wants the high-end look or fit. The Muffin look to be good quality, I think they are just large oil rese's. The nice thing about these is that they suppy a hose so that you can mount them anywere, well within reach. I know some on here have them and they can comment on quality. Then the Hygear, this is what I have, I got them when I had my Apex and they did my rear shock. They are basically a oil rese that you use for an air chamber. They have a needle valve that you can use to adjust flow rates but honestly I never really messed with it, at full open it seemed great so I left it alone. The only issue I have with them is that I can't put them on my new sled as the Float X's have the oil rese, so I need to mount them on the bottom of the shock, not a problem but I also have the float roost gaurds and well, there seems to be interference with them. So while the fit and quality is top notch with the Hygear there is a limit and a minor flaw to them.
As for how they work, I thought they really made a difference on my Apex. Much better then stock, I think any standard float will benefit from them. I went from running, 55-65 psi to 65-75 and the handling actually improved.

I plan on just doing a revlaving on the floats for my sled. I spoke to Bruce at pioneer performance and he claimed I would be surprised how good these shocks actually are. He claims he can take the harshness out and create a more progressive feel to the shock.

The valve stack on the shocks that came on the Apex were not very good at absorbing the high speed stutter bumps at all. I always felt there was way too much feedback coming up through the handlebars when they were encountered. Once that problem was taken care of with 8.00 worth of shims, the valving seemed to work pretty well. Much more progressive. This was a REALLY simple fix. Not to take anything away from Pioneer, but if the Nytro uses the same or similar stack, anyone comfortable making valve stack changes should be able to handle it with ease? The shock itself is really nothing special to work with. TOTAL shock rookie here, and I had no trouble with it. FWIW

I sent my floats to Pioneer and the revalve made a huge difference. I hated the floats before I did this now they work really nice. The rear shocks work way better now too it seems like the clickers make more of a difference when making changes. The best money I spent on the sled was having this done.

What I am hoping for is to run around 55-60 psi and not be harsh of the light stuff or stutter bumps...will these help achieve that? The way I understand it is that these allow for more air movement making it them softer in those conditions. Maybe I should be looking at a revalve to get what I'm looking for?

If your ride height is acceptable as is, you could save some money by just having the shocks revalved. If you're bottoming too often because you can't run enough air pressure without getting harsh, do the resi's. I ran 40psi before, now run 55.

The shocks, if you're putting any miles on the sled, are likely due for freshening. A revalve should be cheap while having that done. Maybe do that and see where it leaves you, then do the resi's if necessary?

Or just say screw it and do 'em both....just don't cheap out on the resi's if/when you go that way.

Does nextech have a website? I'll like more information on them. I'm possibly thinking about getting resi for my floats in the future and the hygear price is way out of my range. So I'm guessing the muffinworks is at the top of my list now.

Is there I muffinworks member hear? I thought I remember seeing one. I have a question I want to ask him.

Took a bit of looking but I found them:

I'm the main Muffin Works contact. My brother RevMuffin is my business partner, and also a contact for Muffin Works. What's your question?
