The Pringle can thing just about made me fall out of my chair. Not knocking it just picturing it, whatever works right!
For trail riding purposes, however I use the float roost guards. I think they changed the design a bit since I got mine, that may be due to the fact that they may rub on the air sleeve if you don't reshape them a bit. The air sleeve would be the larger diameter part of the shock, it has the sticker on it. Anyway, just heat them up with a heat gun, or hair dryer and bend them out a bit. Some need it, some don't, probably the way they stack them when removing them form the mold.
When I used the regular style shock guards they always see to fill with ice/snow and other stuff, with the exception to the Skins airprene ones, those seemed to work as well. Very happy with the level of protection that the roost guards have provided, no nicks or anything on the shock body, and they've been machine-gunned with ice/debris from the sled in front.
