Anyone running floats on the XTX. I"m new to yamaha and just purchased a XTX. Love the sled but and getting used to the weight up front (heavy steering). Thinking of switching to floats to save some weight up front? Any advice? Any other options I should consider to lighten up the front end? I'm 100% stock other than some dually carbides on the stock ski's compliment of another ty4stroke member.

I'm currently considering shocks or new Pilot 6.9 ski's....

Stay with coilovers.

From everything I read the coil overs are a fair bit better. The snow cross racers use coilovers and Polaris's new 800 dragon switched back to coilovers with what they call impressive results. From what I'm learning the guys are running less carbide. Some are adjusting the ski to run differently with a piece of rubber under the ski rubber. I haven't tried it yet but I probably will. If you look under darting you'll find these and more fixes. You can get lighter ski's that will help the slep preform better. That would be my starting point.

I haited my fox floats on my F7, most over rated shox on the planet, way too progresive.... The clickers that are on the XTX are 100x better....

Note I'm talking about the fox shox on the RTX, not the SE, I'm sure those have improved

I'm not sure on the 09' RTX's but the 08's were WAY off (at least in my book) in the valving. They were just way too stiff for trail riding. The 09's may be better but at any rate I can say I loved the Floats on my Apex and am even happier with the ones on my S.E. The adjustable valving is nice to have, and it really does effect the stroke. The nicest thing about the Floats for trail is that you can drip the front end which will improve cornering, while not loosing much bottoming resistance. A coil shock you can only loosen so much, then it's cutting the coils or adding spacers to drop the front. A friend on an Attak can't get is A-arms level with the GYTR's. Level on my RTX is were it cornered best.

are the 09 RTX the float 2's? Anyone recommend them vs. what was on the 08? What would be the weight savings. Thanks for the replies so far....

Five of us bought Yamaha's together last year. One was a 08 RTX Nytro. He hated it. The fox floats never worked properly. He couldn't keep up with the pack without feeling nervous on the sled.
Two of the sleds were RTX Apex's with fox floats. They both loved them.
08 RTX buddy goes out this year and buy's a Turbo Artic Cat... I'm hanging my head too... His RTX Nytro with 800 miles and spent bushings is for sale in New Brunswick.

09's would be better just from a valving standpoint. Not sure if they are Float 2's or not. But if your lucky and come across someone that has an 08' and want's to can the Floats because they hate them. Get them cheap and pay $60.00 or whatever to revalve to Apex specs, and your as good as gold, for way less than new.
