I just installed the filter kit and I had a couple questions.
1 Does anyone else notice it sounds like burbling around 6500 RPMS Freddie do you think dropping the needle 1 clip position would help?
2 Anyone notice a big difference in fuel mileage I know this has been discussed but did anyone else notice this? The conditions where very bad today but I am wondering if maybe I need to jet down or make some small change I wont do this until I ride it a couple more times in better conditions but I only got about 12 MPG today. My motor was just rebuilt so it is tight to again not blaming the kit just asking I love the sound so dont my bike buddies when I am pulling up beside them LOL
3 The first time ever my sled seemed to foul a plug when I started it do I need less choke It came out of it after it wormed up and I rode it a little but I know 4 strokes dont like to use fouled plugs ever.
4 Again conditions sucked so I will have to test more and my engine is not broke in but I seemed to have smoe top end issues I know it has been discussed before but what did we come up with was it air turbulence or clutching
Freddie I had a modded air box with yellow springs and I think 157 jets from Woodys he called it the power up kit along with a clutch kit with overdrive. I could pull into the overdrive only in the best of icy conditions and I could roll up to 130 on the speedo I am hoping with some timing and a little more power I can get into the overdrive easier. I know this is alot of stuff and I cant test yet very well but just some ideas would be good

I am confused race24x....you state at the beginning that you just installed the filter kit and at the end you state that you have a modded airbox, yellow springs and 157 main jets???

Please advise!

Freddie

Yes the carbs where synched
Freddie I used to have the airbox kit from Woodys in Topsham back before the ECP kit they where modding thew airbox changing the springs to yellow ones and changing the jets to 157's. I have since then put in the ECP Kit with EVAC 165's ummm cant remember the colro of the springs I want to say silver air filters and snow dust covers. I know its early and I havent had a very good test but the questions above are on my new rebuilt engine and it is probably tight I just thought I would throw them out there. It seems to have a funny almost burbling noise if I hold it around 6500 from my bike days I would probably try dropping the needle down into the jet one clip to lean it out but I wanted to see what you thought first maybe I can do something with the air screw but I am not sure its in that circuit on the carb

I had the same problem after installing the kit, I then set the fuel screws to 2 /12 turns out and raised the needles one notch, runs like a champ ever since. You just have to play with it a bit.

Race24x, I recognize some of the issues you are dealing with.

1. The burbling, yes I hear it too but if I remember right mine is at 7,500. I raised my needles to the 34 position and it seemed to help.

2. Fuel mileage, mine remains pretty good with the filters. It may have dropped off a littel but it takes fuel to make horse power.

3. Fouled plug, mine did the same thing. It idled and worked great in the garage. I started it in the woods and it would barely idle. I drove it for a while and it ran ok at WOT but once I let off on the throttle it would die. I waited for a few minutes, fired it up and it ran fine the rest of the day. Go figure?

4. Top end, maybe I am missing some but if so it's minimal. You have to clutch to the filters.

Good luck. Let me know if you figure out the fouling issue. That kind of freaked me out.

OK just so we are all on the same page as my friends and I have done this before on the dyno. If you say raise the needles you mean move the clip down one positions correct in other words richer cause your moving the needle further out of the seat? I will double check the fuel screws as I am not 100% sure I set those correctly. Thanks for the tips maybe I can get the motor broke in and some decent conditions to test out the top speed thing it just seemed like it was struggling to hit 90 on the trail but it was loose granular snow and the motor had only 250 miles on it. I didnt hold it open for a long time either.

Seat the pilot fuel screws down lightly on the seats and open them to 2.0 turns open. Allowing the engine to seat rings and seat valves is required. While the engine is breaking in, it will run better and better as time goes on.
