My buddy bought a 07 Apex sled. While looking at it it looks like alot more miles then it is. The suspension is rusted, scratched up pretty good, lots of paint gone on the floorboards, carbides are gone, which are aftermarket 6inch by the way, many lugs missing, seat tearing. It just dosen't look like a 700 mile sled. So just wondering if people can dissconnect the speedo from reading on these things? As it looks like there is just 1-plug that plugs it in?? And is there any way to find out how many miles are REALLY on the sled?

- Which one? I have 6
Last year I had new track, new studs, tunnel just painted, total redone skid, and by the end of the season It also looked that way. Just a bad snow year. Ended up using 2 stets of sliders, went through 6 boggie wheels, punched out studs etc etc.
Hopefully we can make it up this year.

Why would he buy a sled that is all banged up? Good Deal? I hate good deals!
Don't worry though, check all your fluids and change the oil and grease 'er up.
She'll run like a champ. It's a Yammy!
Don't think you can find out about real mileage if the speedo was disconnected. If will even run with the speedo disconnected.

Re: Friend bought a Apex at 700 miles, looks like it has 500
Obviously he drives the crap out of it and doesn't give a #*$&@ about it.Common......theyammyman said:My buddy bought a 07 Apex sled. While looking at it it looks like alot more miles then it is. One could easily reduce or turn off the mileage counter on the sled. The dumb thing is the mileage on the motor would be the least of my worries. If the thing looks beat then it's beat and you need to go through everything. Probably just replace all the wearable items check your rivets and replace any if needed and so on. To unhook the speedo is just plan stupid. This sport is bad enough on the pocket book to be pulling stunts like this. You'd have to ride her pretty hard to get the descibed effects in 700 miles. But anything is possible. Just depends on the location, conditions and who's driving.

I ride hard, just got my sled this season and have around 7-800 miles on it and it still looks like it should be sitting in a showroom. This sled must have just been beaten to crap and left sitting outside for extended periods of time to look as you describe with only 700 miles. Either that or somebody got the best of your buddy by disabling the odometer. Hope he got a hell of a deal on the thing.

Maybe the speedo was replaced the memory is in the speedo itself not anywhere else. The speed sensor couldve been disconnected as well and then everything on the gauge would work except the speed and odometer.

it takes two seconds to disconnect the sensor to the track for the speedo..
my question too is, why buy a beat up sled..

He is new to sledding, this is his first sled. He has owned R1 street bikes so he knows what it is like to be around power. But this sled was cheap and i don't think he really knew what to look for. Judging from what i see i think the speedo was disconnected. So i'm going to have a look to see if anything has been tampered with, not that it really matters anymore. How can you tell if the speedo was disconnected? Do i look for a cut-wire or anything? All i see is a big plug that appears to go to the guage display, so could that have been unplugged to stop the speedo from reading? Thanks for everything.

I thought that the sled will activate toros or something and won't run if the sensor is not connected?

I disconnected the speedo on my Rx-warrior for a couple of days with no problems
Check if the screws of the pod have been tapper with. That could proof the pod was removed...
Forget about the rust in the suspension, you should see mine!
Good Luck.

you can disconnect the trigger from the speedo without touching the pod.. there is a connector just above the secondary clutch..

Around here it is VERY common for speedo/odometers to be disconnected a lot during the first year or two of ownership.
When buying a used sled I always assume the mileage is totally out and base my decision on condition alone.
