Having trouble loosening the lock on the front shock of a stock 07 ER. I have the first lock loosened, on top of the shock, the next level, attached to the spring, however, will not come loose.

Wondering what is the best way to do this and if it is safe, to spray WD 40 or some other lubricant on the shock, and whether or not that will help, Thanks guys. ;)!

Try lifting the front off the floor to lessen the spring pressure. A little penetrant might help also just dont let it run into the shock body, don't want to chance hurting seals.

I agree with lifting the front end. With the track on the ground, use a piece of wood placed under the belly pan, then a floor jack. (ok...get a floor jack..;)

It will lift both skis up and allow you to spin those lock washer by hand, once loosened.

When setting the spring pressure, lower the front end to the ground, tighten springs until A-arms are parallel to ground. Use a small level. Jacking the sled up , tightening the collars, lowering again..until correct is very easy

Thanks guys, I got one loosened up, I don't know what is wrong with the other one, I will try again tomorrow, using your tips.

Hopefully this thing rails now.

If you have two spanner wrenches, spin the lock counterclockwise while spinning the plate that sets the spring tension clockwise. Some times the two pieces lock together to well.

Don't be afraid to use some lube, preferably some Rust Check or Krown spray as it won't hurt anything.
