Bought a new 05 Vector which I still have
24K miles
Is there any reason why I shouldn't have installed inline fuel filters on my Vector? I installed two of them after I pulled the carbs and installed new pilot jets.

I'm guessing that the fuel pumps will work fine with them in.....the filters are before the pump.

Won't hurt anything, but there is an in-tank filter.

Does that filter ever get clogged and need cleaning/changing Catman?
If so, how do you go about it?

I'm sure sooner or later it will get clogged.

As far as cleaning or replacing, that's a damn good question. I've had the tank off my Apex for exhaust donut replacement, and it appears like the filter and sump comes out, but I didn't really study it.

I had a carbed 2003 RX-1 that kept plugging the idle jets with small pieces of crap that made it past the intank strainer. Took the gas tank off and cleaned it out then installed two clear inline fuel filters before the fuel pumps. Never had any issues due to the filters.

It looks like one would pull the whole fuel deal (sender, line/filter) out of the tank. The crap that clogs the pilots can get past the strainer....at least that where the junk must come from right?

Possible, but more than likely the crap that clogs the pilots is called Ethanol. It's corrosive to aluminum, brass, some plastics & copper. Well, guess what, the carbs are aluminum, the jets are brass & the floats are either a light metal or plastic (never had the carbs off my RS Nytro when I owned it.

Put some inline filters on, not gonna hurt. I'd use a paper element type instead of a screen type though.

Thanks Catman ;)!

Maybe this will be a next summer job for me? :dunno:

The crap that was plugging my idle jets appeared to be parts of dead bugs that must have been in the gas can used to fill the gas tank. The RX-1 was brand new at the time. I have always used 10% ethenal blend and never had any fuel related issues. If you don't shut the fuel off and drain the E10 fuel from the float bowls before summer storage you will have plugged idle jets by the next winter. Use a clear filter with a paper element then you can see if it is plugging and what it is plugging with.
