I know in our RX/RS series, We are supposed to run low 87 octane fuel, What is best for the Phazer low 87 or high/premium 92 octane?

The phazer will run on any fuel, but if too low, at a performance penalty. The timing is more aggressive when using the slower burning high octane fuel. I don't know if it requires all the way up at 92, or if it might go into aggressive timing mode with something more moderate like 89. Under some conditions it may run in aggressive mode even on 87.
So to answer your question, the best is to go with the lowest possible while keeping it from holding back.

octane
Manufacture (yamaha) says high octane , if I recall your check engine light will come on do to the timing self adjusting on some sleds , you will also here a pinging noise .Hope this helps .

what about running 87 with little spice up of some good quality octane boost that may add anywhere fron 7-9 points ??? That should give it some better octane rating !!! I say this because all we have here in the north pole is 87...

I ran 91 when available in the MTX last year. I know I ran 87 a few times and nothing happend, no engine light, pings or anything. It just states that the motor will adjust for it by maniplutaing the timing if needed. You simply loose 3-5 H.P.

According to Yamaha, it all depends on which Phazer - FX - RTX says premium, base model says regular

It's possible as the ECU's are different, I now this was discussed in the past and I believe the concensus was that run what ya brung. IT won't hurt anything, you just loose power.

fuel
I have talked with a Tech rep from yamaha on this subject in the past , you do not have to run high octane its just recomended . The ECU is slightly different from modle to modle , yes the ECU does compensate for it . 87 spiced up works for me . I will be running what I can find ,if it is a loww octane fuel il use octane boost . If you have the cold start isue they will replace your ECU and compresion stuff , this cures part of the fuel isue with the ECU and the light .

A buddy of mine just bought an '08 Phazer GT and the dealer told him he could only run premium. it all sounded funny to me so I thought I would throw the question out here. Also, He was told DO NOT PICK THE SLED!!!! the dealer said "All it will do is pull the front end off the ground and it will be unsafe" I would think there would be a beter reason than that for not picking? Wouldn't a few picks be benneficial for braking and a little bit of traction?

if you ride on hard and or icy conditions, pick it, unless you like pretending your a drift racer in the corners.

Fuel / Studs
When I talked to the Yamaha rep about the fuel situation before I bought mine this July basicly he state just what was said on here RUN what you BRUNG the ECU does com for it just the thing s I stated could happen .
Studs I whent to the Big East Power Show this weekend and had a chance to talk with quite a few stud dealers and manufacturers for the Phazer they say 96 up the middle in a christmas tree pattern kinda .
1.075 or 1.080 is the length I was told by all of them . they also say that we should be using the nylon backers for more surface grip on the track , meaning they wont pull or tear out as easy as the aluminum backers .I would stud the phazer because we bought them for a reason and thats to have fun with them , if you like drifting then dont stud it if you like to have control of your machine that stud it , im just not sure witch stud im going with yet , still reserching the pros and cons of each brand so far studs.com with the bumble bee looks the best .
