Hey this weekend I was astonished! First my buddy paid $7 less than me for the same trip on Saturday. (driving slow, large group) No surprise. But!!! On Sunday just three of us went out and we beat our machines to death. Mine STILL got 17 MPG and SO did His!
Yah I know, he can get 23 MPG if he wants to drive like a baby but, in reality if he actually drives it, his mileage is the same as ours. Plus, mine kicks the crap out of him in a drag race. (I have 08 RTX with 136 X 1.5 ripsaw, etc)
I keep reading about who is faster.....blah blah blah, MAKE it YOUR race, Not theirs. Then You'll always win. And if that fails, challenge them to a 75 foot table top. Yours will still be in one piece....
Have a good one boys (&girls)!!

Yeah, I rode with a 600 e-tec the other day too. Overall a fairly nice machine, but was no match for my sled (09 XTX). I pulled him every single time with 3-4 sled lengths the whole way. Fuel mileage was good and it didn't stink like a 2-smoke. But, it still burns oil and it'll prolly need a new top end by 3000-4000 miles. I can't see paying more in the first place for something that's gonna cost you more in the long run. The minor shortcomings of the Yamaha are worth it for the reliability. Ski Doo builds a great looking and great handling machine, but some of the issues with build quality will probably prevent me from buying one again.

yup, gets about the same MPG.......itec is a little wee bit better perhaps on average.

I only know about two E-tecs around here. One of them has used an impressively low amount of fuel so far this season, because the owner is waiting for new parts for his seized engine... The second one is owned by a local cross country racer. He reports "no fukkin difference in fuel economy compared to the snocross sixhundreds..." (his own words...). Seems like the fuel economy is brilliant only when cruising at slow speed. If you hammer the throttle it is no different than any other twostroke 600, at least not according to this guy...

Some riders are also reporting LESS performance than the old SDI but much better on oil, gas milage about the same...

My dad, uncle, and I just got back from a U.P. run... (grand marais, seney, newberry, etc.) Brought my brand new XTX Nytro up there and got to break it in. I was getting 15-17 MPG. My uncle has a brand new Etec, and he was breaking it in as well and was going through about 2-3 gallons more then me. I was very happy with mine!

You'll have to see how they do when the throttle is pinned. My cousin's Polaris 600 CFI gets about the same mpg as my Vector when we are riding at a rather sane pace (50-60mph). But when we're blasting from corner to corner and going WOT on the straights his mileage drops down to about 10mpg while mine remains around 16. The newer 2 strokes deliver incredible mileage when the exhaust valves are closed but once they are opened they resort back to their gas-guzzling nature. Maybe the DI Doo is better.

The SDI's were just like that. My 04 SDI was great on fuel on low-mid speed riding, but when I really pushed it then the milage was just over 10. It was a great sled except for the fact that I blew the motor up 3 times in 2 years. Those were a couple years I'd like to forget!

yah....me to, its how i ended up on my Nytro actually. My SDI was rebuilt once a season, I felt like a BRP test pilot. A Ccose relative was a service manager at a bomber dealer, at least i got good deals and lotsa freebies.
e-tec/sdi/nytro are all pretty close MPG when rode hard.......nothing to even worry about.

My buddies E-tec gets 12 when ridden and 17-18 being babied. Not bad, about the same as my nytro but the power of the line is not comparable. I LOVE TORQUE!!!
