Here are a few images of my Garmin Montana 600 mounted to the riser of my new '14 Apex XTX.
Everything was clean and simple. I started out with the factory Garmin Montana Rugged AMPS Mount and Ram Mount 1" ball plate.
I like the rugged mount cuz it had a super quick release feature them makes docking the unit a snap.
I also fabricated an extension plate out of aluminium to locate the unit a few inches forward, and painted it satin black to match.
I am using a modified riser from a Phazer Mountain FX that has been milled out to fit the Apex steering plate. (More on that in another post) It comes pre-drilled and tapped with holes for the interments so I just flipped it around and used them to attach my RAM Mount ball.
Then I took a setAnderson Power Pole 15A plugs and added some caulk to make them a little more water resistant.
I tied that into the power from the switched 12v outlet on the cowl with an automotive t-tap and ran the ground to the frame. Then added a set to the wires of the rugged mount. Having a plug in for power allows me to remove the mount if there is ever a problem or I want to upgrade.
And there you have it. A neat and dependable GPS mount for your sled.
Here is a look at my old setup that used the same mount with a Garmin Colorado 400t. (Now for sale if anyone is interested.)
