This is the cheap one. Not Carbon fibre like Studroes is trying. Observations so far.
Very aggressive start when new. Really grabs. No belt dust yet. Will give it some time to break in since seems to be getting smoother as am running but the grab on launch is noticeable so far. Not sure I like that though.

Cannondale what was the cost of the cheaper gates belt?
Like $60.
I am hoping once broke in it will ride higher in secondary giving lower ratio at launch but new cleaned and scuffed clutches that is impossible without setting parking brake. Testing definitely takes time. Did not have that issue with 8 dn.

I noticed that with mine, when I put it on and the first couple times I checked it it was a bit low, once I got 20-30 miles or so it would then sit higher in the secondary. It's still a bit low, as of now it's riding flush with the top of the secondary. I'm going to get some shims and a new 8dn belt on hand and hopefully be able to compare the two in the next couple weeks
I agree. Only had about 2 or 3mi on at that point.

Not for sure but I'd assume both gates belts have the same grippy feeling to them, I've noticed with mine is it doesn't wind up as quickly as with the stock belt but rather it grips hard and really grunts the engine.

Has anybody tried the Gates equivalent to the 8DN?
No but after this I am going to try ultimax 8dn equivalent. Always liked that belt on SRX.

I ended up buying the Gates 8DN equivalent, but haven't put it on yet. I'll have to try it next time I'm up at the cottage.
Awesome! Let us know.

I just found a brand new 8dn I had around, hoping to play around tomorrow afternoon. My clutching now is using the gates belt, I'll throw the 8jp on for the heck of it and then try the 8dn and see which one gives the best speed

Got a chance to compare my gates carbon belt to the 8dn belt. 8dn belt was brand new so I didn't get after it much, rode the sled for about 10 mins just workin the throttle good then did a couple short few second bursts of wot, the 8dn wound right up almost instantly from a 5mph roll on and hit the rev limiter 3-5 times in a matter of a couple seconds. Did one dead stop launch, it just wound up too quite and blew the track out then was hittin the rev limiter hard, didn't hold it for any speed distance at all. Went back to the house and threw the gates belt on and tried that one, right away I could tell it wasn't as wingy, when u hit the gas it didn't wind up quite as quick, it grabs and lunges. did a few roll ons and the same thing, it just grips really hard and pulls much more, only hit rev limiter once in 3 roll ons. From a dead stop you can hear the gates belt just loads the engine more, it doesn't blow the track out but lunges hard and accelerated very quick! 85mph on the speedo in a matter of a few seconds. Certainly can't say at this point which is better, and if clutched properly for the 8dn maybe it would feel the same. So far I can tell the gates carbon belt is much more grippy. Temps are dropping and I was wearing jeans, sneakers, a long sleeve shirt and my open face wheeler helmet so didn't even want to think about trying the 8jp belt lol. Will be out again in the morning and get the 8dn belt broke in better and try it out some more and I'll be sure to put the 8jp on too.
I was really surprised how much the gates grabbed on launch. I was consistently hitting 85 in short ditch in front of house. About 400 ft including brake room. Srx could hit 90 in same stretch.

Now that I just ordered a second 8DN...
I've said it before and I'll say it again some of the the Doo guys (the believers) say 3 mph more top speed.
Anxious to hear the long term reports. The Carbon one is supposed to be the best.
