Gear gurus, need some help

There is a place near midland called Mickey's Sled Salvage or something like that. They always have used parts and you can call and order or see what they have and have them shipped to you. Just another place to check. Just google them and you will find their site.

I would not put a new chain on those gears they are done and they will cause wear on your new chain. Replace everything and did you check the driveshaft and jackshaft bearings I would not be surprized that a wore bearing caused the chain to slip that may be why your chaincase was low on oil. If its bearings you have to put new bearings and seals in the gears and chain can be used as long as its not in the same shape as yours.

You can try to save a few bucks but it will cost you more in the long run. Sledding is not cheap and we only get so many rides in. Spend the money, do it right and don't take a chance of ruining a new chain and possibly a weekend for you and your buddies.

He is getting new gears. I'll check the bearings tonight. We're putting it back together this weekend. Thanks for all the help. Not sure what shape the stuff was in prior, not my sled, and he bought it used and put very little miles on it. He was running that thick black gear lube.

Synthetic 80/90 is what I would run. Check those bearings on both sides the speedo side is easy. You could even save yourself some future headache by taking a jewellers screwdriver and pry the seals off both bearings on the clutch side, clean out the old grease, repack with new grease and reinstall the seal.

X2. I've always used Mobile One. Man those reverse gears are chewed up. The only thing I can think of is the former owner was not keeping an eye on his chain tensioner, got stuck, and tried real hard to reverse it out.

4strokelover87 has quite a few RX1 parts and is great to work with.

I would love to be up there and ride up to the Brown Trout in Indian River.
