It was advised to me change gearing to a 23/40 or a 1.73 ratio on my attak. I love hard acceleration yet dont want to compromise my top end. Anyone had any input? I have stock clutching, limiter pulled up one notch, 108 1.325 studs down the middle on my 07 Attak GT (which I love.).

Thanks!

gearing

i have 23-40 which i like, i like midrange and it really pulls hard, this was
recommended by mike knapp so that tells the story, only thing you might need to add studs, give it a try, cheap improvement 125 dollars.

Go for it. You will gain more usable power and (unless you run on glare ice for miles) loose nothing up top.

chain

changing lower gear is not to bad, i've done this 2 times, make sure you
get the fork in the right place for reverse when you reinstall.

I run 23/40 in my Attaks. We did a whole bunch of testing here today. Short tracks, long tracks, studded, un-studded. Airbox mods, clutching and belts, transfer rod settings, no transfer rods. My head is spinning.

i was also thinkin of gearing down a bit. do you have to buy a chain and gear or just gear. i have a 1.5 inch ripsaw and weigh in at 290 dressed i would think. would this be a big improvement on the attak.

Well it should help you a whole lot rxwhopper, You can buy a 40 Tooth bottom and use the stock chain. or a 22 top with a shorter chain. I chose the 40 bottom being I like larger gears more. When you use the 40 on the bottom with reverse you'll need to press out the needle bearing on your stock gear, and press it in to the new gear.

I've tried 24/38, 24/40 and now 23/40 on my 121. My sled works best with the 23/40. By going to the 23/40 I was also able to add more weight to the tip and heels of the weights.

got the 40 tooth on the way. what should i do with the clutching now? i have 38-20 heelclickers and i have a proline kit. which do you think would work the best with the gearing change. will they be close. my heelclickers deffinetly worked better then stock clutching

Clutching is not as critical with aftermarket weights. Stock weight tend to pick RPM higher with gearing down. No reason Heelclickers are better than stock unless engine is not fully broke in yet. I don't know how many mile you have on. I'd use the Pro-Line kit or stock clutching. The best RPM for these is 10,500-10,900. If you have a heel clicker set up then give it a try.
