I think you're really gonna like the gear-down. I went with a 22/40 setup and I'm considering going to 21/40. The other thing you will see is that when you trail ride, your clutches will operate deeper, and cooler with less wear and tear on belts and sheaves. I'm currently experimenting with getting more over-drive out of the primary (speed ring) and secondary (milling the back-side of helix). If I get what I'm looking for then I'll most likely go to the 21T top gear. Good Luck! Zilla.rxwhopper said:i have 3600 miles on it. i think i will give the proline kit a try with it
I run 22/40 with the stock weights on my 144 Attak. RPMs are around 10-900 but pulls unreal. I can pull about 5 lengths on same setup Attak with stock gearing. I never thought the gearing down would this much, but its the best money I have spent.

With your 22/40 setup what did that do to your top-end?ult680 said:I run 22/40 with the stock weights on my 144 Attak. RPMs are around 10-900 but pulls unreal. I can only pull around 100 to 107 mph GPS, I am running extroverts and the 1-1/2 which is going to that down.

So with my 1 1/4 track, and 22/40 gears, 110 mph is feasible? That's what I'm hoping for. And when the conditions are ripe I'm hoping the overdrive will kick-in for another 5 mph. The 21T top-gear is already starting to look good!ult680 said:I can only pull around 100 to 107 mph GPS, I am running extroverts and the 1-1/2 which is going to that down.

I've been thinking of changing the lower gear on my '08 LTX GT to the 40T, but keeping the top gear stock (23T). I've seen my speedo read 113-115 on 6-8" loose hardpack lake snow and 134 on a near perfect road with stock gearing (23/38). By me changing the lower gear to the 40T would my top end performance be compromised any?
I know I would feel an increase in low/mid range pull, but I really care about top end.
Any thoughts would greatly be appreciated.

I'm gonna change my track to the 1.5" Intense! Has anyone just changed the top gear to 21t from 23 and if so what are your thoughts?
Mostly riding fields, stubble and slough's, little bit of trail and of course the annual Duck Mountain trip!
Turk, Maybe you can chime in here?
Thanks,

buying that gear and a new chain will be cheaper then buying a 40 tooth bottom up here in canada. phoned 2 dealers and the gear is 260.00 and you still need the inner bearing

how much top end will you lose if you gear down on the Attak, right now i'm getting awesome numbers on the ice with stock gearing

Update....
I installed the 23/40 gear combo in my '08 LTX GT and had a chance to run the sled the past few days and all I can say is WOW!!!
I have the stock 1.25" Ripsaw track w/ 162 studs and the sled just pulled....very hard! Basically, woke this sled up.
On a plowed hard pack road I saw 135 on dream-meter which is in the same ball park as what I saw wth the stock gearing. But the 23/40 got me there so much quicker, I could not stop frickin' smiling!!!
Best $$$ I've spent.

did you really notice a huge defference going to the 40 tooth gear, so you didn't lose any top end? was it hard to install?
