Who is using a 26 tooth top gear? Wondering if it as actually quicker in 1320 with 14-15lbs of boost than a 25/38 assuming we are spinning on hard pack, not to be confused with primo hook up using chissels on plowed ice. I have been reading in many cases the taller gear is quicker.

Extremely dependent on Traction.

On ice with chisels there is NO loss of traction so you can gear by math for the speed your sled is capable of and you want to gear as low as possible without cutting your top speed.

Now on Snow you must over gear (Taller) to make up for traction loss even at top speed the track is ALWAYS spinning, So you should gear for 20 MPH faster than the sled could possibly run on Radar.

So there is no gear that will work for everyone or every condition.

Ted.

For ha ha's........ throw me the fastest gear combo for 1,000'
knowing 10 tooth drivers, 10,500 rpm, at 20#, running 40 tooth bottom.
I have 23, 24, 25 tooth top gears to choose from!
When I say fastest, in this case I'm looking for best MPH and not quickest way to cover 1,000.

I would say 25 but I don't know if the chain is long enough with the 40 tooth.

I am getting Old LOL, I can't remeber if I am running 24-40 or 25-38

We gear lower for snow. Snow has more resistance then ice therefore the sled can move thru better & more efficiently with lower gearing to help overcome increased drag.

I run 26-38 at 18lbs , gearing feels good in snow but cant hold the belt in the secondary now, as power goes up add another obstacle to conquer,
