i have a front mount powderlites turbo kit on my sled .here is what is happening .i let the sled run for about 10 to 15 minutes idling and i take a look at my header and it is glowing.my header was just fixed and ceramic coated by powderlites and i put a 2860 turbo on it .i never had this issue with the 2560 turbo on it.what could be wrong here,it shouldnt get that hot just idling for 10 minutes.my air fuel at idle is around 15 which isnt bad .what do you guys figure is going on .thanks for any help.

this is for an rx1 by the way.mulot30th this is what my jetting is at .155 main jets .17.5 pilot jets and fuel screws turned 2 and a half turns and my needle in the stock midddle position .what do you recommend i do.this is happening at idle though.

Is there some obstruction in the exhaust, a rag, what about the flex elbow or below, I think that's what it's called. Mine had collapsed, and I think you told me about that.

don ,i never thought of the flex elbow on my dd pipe.maybe it collapsed but the exhaust still sounds the same and it has lots of air coming out the back exhaust.i also put a 2860 turbo on it too.what happened to yours when the flex elbow collapsed .the sled still runs good and pulls really hard with this 2860 turbo.

Idling at 15 to 1 for 10 minutes will do it. Your way too lean. Idle should not be leaner than 13.5 to 1

Yep mine sounded the same, but I think power was down or not as much boost as it should have. The only way to check it was to pull the pipe, and drop a nut through it, 3/4 inch nut would get stuck. All we did was remove the webbing on the inside. I think Jim and yourself had told me to check this, and I was relucktant as it was new from Powderlites!!

how do i go about adjusting the idle for it to be in the 12 to 13 .do i move the needle clip.it didnt do this with the 2560 turbo.the sled still pulls like crazy .

what size pilots do most people run with the 2860 and what clip position do they have also.

IMO, theres not enough load at idle to generate that much exhaust heat to even get it thinking about being red, sounds more like hurricane mentioned, excessive retarding of timing of bad cam timing letting what heat you have into the exhaust. On my propane setup, the stuff burns pretty much no matter what, so I can make it run insane rich at idle, or lean, and it still wont get the header hot unless I load the motor up and get some demand on the thing. if setup right, bad jetting shouldnt be able to generate that much exhaust heat.

I just wanted to chime in if its not to late. I had the same issue w a new powderlites header and old flex pipe. The flex pipe collapsed inside and my header turned glowing orange. I later found out I cracked the new header and had a 1'' hole in the flex joint that collapsed! It was at the same time I upgraded to a 2860 from 2554. I bought a new header from pl but w/o a new downpipe 1400 doller lessen
