Well I have decided to take the leap, however which one to buy is the hard part. I ride trails 99% of the time in MN, WI, and upper MI. My 00 SRX has been the best sled I have ever owned and it will be staying put in the shed for years to come.
I have been riding sleds since 1980 when I was 12 years old. The trouble is deciding which sled to buy......on one hand I'm thinking go with the vector or the rage as they are most likley the best trail option......on the other hand would I ever be happy with anything less than the top dog and just get the rx1 and be done with it. I know full well that after the first season on which ever sled I buy it will be getting a turbo. This thought process kinda brings me back to the vector or rage as the turbo will bring it up to the performance level I know I will desire.
And then there are the differnt suspensions, this only compounds the decision process!!! The mono shock brings me back to the rx1
So......
Rx1 and warrior owners why did you get one and why not the vector or rage?
Vector and Rage owners why did you get one and why not an rx1 or a warrior?
either pick has to have elec start and rev.
Lastly..... how much less taxes is fair? Not worring about a few hundred bucks and would really like to buy local and support local dealers.
Or should I wait for a couple months and see whats out to snow check ans just suffer through on my old stinky SRX. ,lol
This forum is awesome and thanks for taking your time to reply.

I bought a 2005 RX-1, after having a 2004 Warrior. The Vector will probably take the corners alittle better then the RX-1, but the RX-1 will give you a better ride with the new mono shock. The RX-1 will be faster, (about 8 MPH faster in the 1/4 mile at the shoot-out last Friday). If you want more power, speed and a better ride, get the RX-1. If you want a better handling sled buy the Vector, If you want to speed some time at your dealer for repairs then get the Arctic cat 660 Turbo.

Get an RS shorty, turbo it, throw out its suspension and replace with ExpertX144 and a ripsaw 144 track. You can get an aftermarket tunnel extension. ALL of the RS and RX's have too steep of an approach angle.

If you are only happy when you have the power to run with the biggest selds, get the RX-1.
If you are happy with a 600-700 class machine get the Vector.
The RX-1 will walk past the Vector at higher speeds.
I brought the Vector as 99.9% of the time I am not going over 90 mph. I love crusing the trails and riding big mile days. Based on my first 150 miles, the Vector is going to be a fantastic trail machine, exactly what I brought if for.

Bob, I have an 04 warrior with 2800 miles on it from last year! My choices where either the RX-1 or The Warrior!
I have been riding since 1970 and I have owned many sleds and this Warrior is the best one that I have ever owned! Whichever one you choose you cannot go wrong, as long as it's a four stroke! You will be spoiled by the power that they produce and the economy and reliability that go with them! They are great for long rides and less fatiguing than the smokers! Above 40 MPH you just hear the wind going by. I paid $8300. for mine before taxes and I got $300. worth of accesories free. The advantage of the 136" track is better traction, braking, and its better in deeper snow or for climbing. The disadvantage is you lose some cornering ability and about 3MPH on top end. Although I added a Mountain primary spring and shimmed the secondary for overdrive. And this is said to give better accleration and 12 MPH more on the top end.
I rode with all of the muscle sleds last year and this Warrior once broken in was a force to contend with.![]()

I have a warrior... alot more push in corners than what you are usto...
If i were you id get the vector... light, fast, great handling, and a turbo puts at about 200hp.. WOW..
I ride the same areas as you and have had to add lots of aftermarket parts to make it handle in those conditions!

Great input, thanks.
So what do you guys think are the chances of having the mono shock rear skid in the RS for 06?
That alone is the main reason I keep leaning towards the RX.
And do you think the RX will get the front end calibration the RS has now?

I think that for '06 you will see much more widespread use of the monoshock.
One thing that Yamaha MUST change for '06 is to put grease fittings in the monoshock.
The lack of grease fittings is one thing that is going to really turn people away from that suspension. It is insane that in 2004 there is a suspension that does have this feature.
Myself, I would wait to see what '06 brings. Who knows what Yamaha will come out with. Most likely a 100 hp 4-stroke (to replace the Venom), possible a 4-stroke ditchbanger and maybe even a factory turbo for the RX-1.
The sleds that a dealer has now they will most likely have come March.
If I were buying a new sled this year, I think Id spend the money on the RX-1. Id rathar have the big dog considering that its only about 40 pounds heavier. The added weight is well worth the extra 25 hp. Also, I dont expect that the insurance would be any more expensive from the RS to the RX. They are both pretty close in displacement (975 vs. 999) so the insurance costs should be pretty close.
However, if I were seriously in the market for a new sled I would wait. I seldom ride over 70 mph because the trails I ride do have enough straight and flat places where you can really open it up (I used to ride a Phazer and never was lacking for power), so Id wait for the 4-stroke Venom replacement. Think about it, 800cc 4-stroke twin. Put that in the Genesis Xtreme chassis with the monoshock RA rear. If that came in at right around 490-510 pounds dry itd be one great trail sled!

I would NOT get a sled for the monoshock since the first thing I would do to it is throw it out. Over 110 hp is TOO MUCH for a 121" track. I decided that after shredding TWO.

Buddy of mine just picked up an 05 rx1er blue and paid $7800.00 plus taxes, not sure if he had to pay any for setup, but even still it should not be more than $150 more. Hope it helps

Would pulling in the straps help with that LB?

Nope. If you sucked in the straps enough to make any significant difference, you would be driving the skis down into the ground so hard that you might as well be driving a bulldozer.

Huh. When I reduce preload to minimum on the front springs to lower COG...will that increase or decrease the pressure on the skis, LB?
Generally speaking...does it make sense to pull in the straps on the mono-shock when reducing preload on the front springs and dropping COG?

You're adding another variable. The question was the STRAPS. If all else is equal, tightening the STRAPS will INCREASE the pressure on the skis.
If you reduce the preload on the front springs, that will transfer more of the front weight onto the center springs (where the straps are).
If you want to reduce your approach by tightening the straps and compensate for the increased ski pressure by loosening the front preload, you can, and you will lower the COG, but to make any appreciable difference without having too high of ski pressure, 1) you'll have to lower the front a LOT, which will affect bump handling capabilities, 2) your suspension will be at the wrong angle with respect to its mounts on the tunnel, which will result in poor performance on bumps and poor weight transfer.
If your objective (from the sound of your question) is to reduce COG, then you may find that without sucking in the straps, you will experienced too light of ski pressure resulting in poor steering and lateral instability.
