got 3 days to make up my mind on 2005 rx1 or 2005 mach z

mackz

MW I have 2 of the RX1s comming and 2 Mackz s comming. If I get what I saw being tested by Doo you might as well park the Yamaha. This sled, if not detuned from when being tested is a rocket. I have owned them all. All the trips of all brands and haver seen a sled run like this sled does. Like I said IF that is the way the public will get it, I dont know. I have also ran the pro drag circuit for many years till I retired. Raced stock up to full mod classes and have won the world series .Just saying this so you know I do know speed when I see it . ;)! I would like to beat it with the RX1 because it will be the sleds we plan to take all our trips on. Will use the Doos for lake running. Thats why I,am interested in the turbo. :yam:

Sorry guys...... anything short of NOS or a Turbo on RX-1 won't run with the MACH. Filters won't do it. Not even close!
Love my RX-1, but why kid yourself?

Care to back up your solid information on this? Ahh thats right, you have none =). Till next year it's just speculation. Either way my points still stand. First year sleds can be real problems. Especially considering that this is a 1000cc twin... Just wait a year is all most of us are sayin.

First thing I want to say if the Mach was guaranteed to be as relaible as an RX1 I would be on one this season because I like it.

But....How soon we all forget.... :ORC

From day 1 the DOO 800 twins 's were ticking time bombs right up to around 2003 when they finally worked out (most) of the kinks but not all of them. The 03' Legend SDI 800 was also a lemon. They never got them working right and a local dealer was selling 3 brand new 03 SDI 800's (minus the motors) so that should tell you something. I have a feeling that SDI is still not perfected on the big bore 2 strokes and I would be giving them at least 1 season to work out the bugs.

And don't say WARRANTY because we all know how tough parts will be to get for the first year sled if something does break down on the motor. Besides how great is a 2 year warranty when you are sitting at the hotel and your buddy's are saddling up to ride :4STroke: Been there done that!!!

OT- I'm considering buying a brand new '03 Rev 800 Blair Morgan for $11K CDN. I really don't want another 2 stroke but I do need a sled for the next two months and I'll need a sled for ditchbanging and jumping for next year. I will definitely be keeping my '03 RX-1 for all the obvious reasons. Any suggestions regarding this '03 rev ? Worth the money ?

My bulkhead was destroyed when my A arm ripped off a week ago. Anyone know where to get a right side bulkhead ?

Thanks,

This is my opinion based on my buddy's experience....

The 03 REV was similar to the 03 RX-1. Great idea and proved that it would work but a few enhancements in 04 which made it an entirley different handling sled. 2 riding buddies have REVS...One of my buddies had an NEW 03 REV then sold it and bought the 05 SDI 600. The other buddy still has the 03. The 05 is heads and tails better handling than the 03. So much so that the guy who still owns the 03 is trading in after riding the 05.

The 03 had some serious ski lift and handling issues (similar to our RX1's) From my understanding Doo got it right in 04...that's the reason for seeing so many 03's for sale. Also they got rid of the beaver tail in 04 which for some reason didn't function as well as it should have. Studding is very difficult on the REV...at least in 03 it was.

Thanks RXWonder,
It has the newer skid and not the beaver tail, would this help the ski lift problem? I can get an '04 REV 800HO renegade for the same price. I just don't know which one to pick.

From my buddy's comments...I would go 2004.

No the ski lift thing was with the front end. I am not sure why the beaver tail went away.

From what I know the REV handling was the same as our problem...Straight Rate springs and sway bar were updated as well as some front end geometry. I remember my buddy commenting that it was "unpredictable" in corners. Sound familiar?

Try dootalk.com you will probably get better info there than from me. I have heard great things about the HO's both the 600 and 800.

Still....I will probably never ride 2 stroke again just because of reliability. I would rather ride than wrench... :4STroke:

If it was me, I would go with the Renegade just because of the longer track. It's also a bonus that it's an 04 :)

That is true, it is a 2-smoker I can't trust but I just don't foresee any super light and powerfull 4-stroke ditch bangers by next year and it's prime riding season for the next two months up here. Maybe I can sell it to a museum in five years when 2-smokers are extinct or shall I say exstinked  :4STroke: It will be hard to go back to the dark ages in terms of technology but it should be fun hitting those jumps hard and knowing I can wrestle it down on to both skiis on landing, I only weight 165lbs so it's been scary hitting jumps with a full tank of gas. I will ride the RX-1 on trips further than 20 miles from town.

Thanks again for your suggestions and comments.

If it were me I'd go with the 600 HO... Cheaper, still hauls, lighter, great for jumping and I don't trust their 800 motors. Of course people have had bad experiences with the 600 too. But 800's seem more prone to failure.

My dealer sells all 4 brands and he has driven all the new 05's. He said that new rear skid on the new RX-1 was one of the smoothest riding sleds of all the 05's....

No decision necessary buy the Yamaha 05 has the best skid on the market and we all know how sweet that 4 stroke is. After getting away from my old smelly 2 stroke I'll never go back! :4STroke:
