The mount for the ball is held in place by two large allen head bolts. Check them as I have seen them come loose.

That is a cast part. It is brittle and will not hold up to punishment.
Be very careful, as it can fail under stress other than linear.
It's tensil strength is just fine. Just don't apply much of a vertical load to it. Especially one with ANY inertial force.

I guess those ATV receiver hitches are a bad idea
Yeah, I had one and broke the stock one right off. If I had any clue on metal working I would make a laminated one with 3 or 4 sheets of steel using the stock allen screw holes. But I'm a metal retard

I just broke the allen bolts the other day. The grizz makes a awsome skidder to pull fallen trees out of the lake to bad the allen bolts were not up to the task.

After I broke mine, I did a little investigation on the subject.
Leed Engineering out of Ashland Wi. makes a real nice receiver hitch for the Grizzly and other ATV's. The one for the Grizz is cross braced on the tube frame above the tongue area. This should take some of the stress off the stock casted tongue. They are not cheap, however.

The allen-bolt holes go all the way thru the lower frame, all I did was bend a piece of sheet metal from under the frame to the receiver bolt hole. It made it a lot stronger mount.
Nice fix DrQuad
Do you per chance have a picture?

This is the only picture at this time and it is hard to see the bracket, it goes from below the ball mount to the frame.

You're too modest DrQuad, you had a nice layout drawing of the part in your collection. http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/r2rfrisch ... pg&.src=ph
Very nice machine and very nice photo collection. I like the front CVT filter but what did you do with the rear snorkle? While I've gotten junk entering through the front, it's the rear that really causes grief when the machine's in deep.
Thanks for posting

I'm interested in seeing more of this hitch mod. How thick is the steel you used? I didn't see that on the diagram. Could you take a few pics of it for us? Thanks

Well I' am glad you looked around and found the drawing, I think I have Sometimer's disease (sometimes I have Alzheimer's). Anyway the steel is 0.125" thick.
For the clutch exhaust I made an adapter (hose_adapter.jpg) to fit 1.5" hose to it and ran it along the side of the engine and around the steering post the back down ~ 4". This fixed the problem of water backing up into the clutch and also blows cool air on the front of the engine. I did not want snorkels on the machine. If the water is getting above the front rack it is time to do a water wheelie!
