Does this shock need work with only 800 miles on 06 apex gt ?

Someone stated that this shock cost $ 1,400.00
to replace in yamaha parts list.
Its sad that it did not last more than 800 miles
after normal riding. My warranty is about to
expire so i will contact dealer right away.
Thanks Machzed for the reply ! :ORC

Apparently they made some changes for the new shock. However, it has the same part number as the old one.
Kevin at Port Yamaha has seen the sparatic problem as well, he told me at the Novi show that Ohlins has been working with Yamaha to address the problem and should be covered 100%.

Was he talking about Ohlins making the change?

Yes, thats what I understood.
Anyone know how to get your shock back into Canada without getting hit with brokerage fees? Do I have them mark warranty repair or warranty replacement on the shipping label?

Make sure the paperwork is filled out correctly. As long as they put warranty repair it will fly through

2006 Apex-GT
Pioneer is awesome! Last year I took all 4 shocks from my SXR700 to Bruce for update and overall maintainance. My SXR had 5500 miles on the original shocks. I drove my shocks down on a Monday and by wed. they were on my door step. All four shocks revalved and 2 needed seals, it came to something like 250.00 with return shipping. What a deal. So, I get my 06' Apex-GT and I never rode my SXR-700 last year at all. Last week I took my SXR-700 with all the new shocks and new upper end and all new bearings and high end bushings from Pioneer on it's first test ride in almost 2 seasons. WICKED is all I can say. My no-action skid was a really nice skid and it was like a totally different sled. It rode better than any Yamaha I have ever ridden. I did not have big washed out mogules to test it on but, the ones I did hit it soaked them right up. I was impressed at the results of Bruce's work. So, yesterday I had a customer meeting near Pioneer and I am going on a 4 day trip with my Apex-GT this week. I called Pioneer last min. and asked if I could get my GT in for some service. I thought my GT's shock might be leaking because some dirt was forming on the spring and body. Pioneer said bring it in and we can do it while your at your meeting. I also had them do a NYS inspection on my trailer while it was there with the sled. Long story short, I would expect my shock to be pulled and serviced as I asked for and my trailer to be inspected as asked for. I got, my shocked re-valved for my weight 220lb and since I have the YES 48 month service contract Yamaha paid for some of the shock service on my GT. I paid for the re-valve and Yamaha picked up the labor and new seal head. They found a wire problem and loose bearings on my trailer and fixed them for .5 hours labor (sweet). I took my GT for a ride tonight and noticed they also greased all my zerks from front to rear. My trailer/shock/skid are all perfect now and my GT I rode tonight is better than new with the new valving. Pioneer is one great place to deal with. I say, get your shock re-valved and you will love your GT. Doug

I had mine replaced under waranty, but I got a "rebuilt" shock back! Has this been this way for anybody else? I don't really care as long as it works good. I am about #220 without gear, and after all the kind words about Pioneer, I'll be sending them my shock(s) after the season! Thanks for the positive feedback from everybody! It makes decisions easier when you can read of so many positive results.

I got mine swapped for a rebuilt as well and it was shot before I even rode the sled. I went to adjust the rebound and got 3 clicks then nothing ??? Went back dropped off the sled, grabbed my shock they took out and went straight to UPS to ship to Pioneer. Well worth the $160 to get it done right and put this behind me !
Not sure what the heck Yamaha is doing but they need get serious about fixing this properly.
Only question I have is should I go back to the stock spring with the revalve job, I weigh 180 lbs and found the heavier spring really kicked back alot but that may be due to the shock charge being low.

I weigh 180 pounds and ride a stock 07 GT and in 500 miles of low snow rough trails have bottomed twice. Talked to Ohlins rebuilder in NH and he stated he could not do much to improve the 07 shock. That the compression side was very good.
Also, the 06's should be redone and 07's should be done if you change the stock spring.
You may need to adjust the rebound, 2 or 3 clicks in the rear skid to solve your problem.
