GT or RTX?

Looking over severl things and am considering an Apex....

Why is the GT more expensive than the RTX? I would think the better suspension in the RTX would drive the price up, but the GT is considerably more.

Also in the RTX what colors do they offer it in. On the Yamaha site they only show the black/yellow and not too keen on that. I like the black/silver or the deep red one.

I do most of my "hard" riding in northern wisconsin. The trails take a pretty good beating, but not sure if the RTX is needed. Im coming off late ninetys Polaris so anything will be much improved.

Looking to lay out a chunk of cash and want to make the best choice....thanks.

You can get the RTX with non reverse so that is often the first price many see. The rear ohlin shock of the GT is a purpose built shock that is kind of pricey compared to any other suspension. Very slick though!
You really can’t go wrong with either one. I like the red GT myself in the 07 offerings, but I would put a set of fox floats up front.

The GT has the "more sophisticated" rear suspension. We have to be careful on TY saying better, because guys like me who ride trails somewhat hard and love being able to change the shock compression damping rates on the fly like the ohlin electric control shock and I/ we like the ride of the mono shock . That is why it is the GT groomed trail and for that it is the Better suspension and "worth more money".

Yet for those who want to pound the bumps and jump alot the RTX suspension is said to hold up better. I have not heard it said it rides plusher. So for 'rough trail, the RTX is the "better" suspension for durability.

So if you mostly cruise / fly on the trail get a GT, if you live to Pound the bumps get an RTX.

They make a big deal abot the Fox air shocks up front and some wt loss, seem to be holding up, no personal experience, but the front shock on the GT are 'premium' but do have the wt of the spring.

The motor will make you so happy you won't notice any thing else

IMO the mono rear rides heads and tails better then new RTX rear....BUT If you want to beat it up hard on trails Id go rtx..

what i would do is buy an ER,which is alot cheaper and add fox floats to it....then you got a killer sled,at decent price...some dealers will work with you and possibly do a swap for floats and extra cash,and trade the cheaper ER shocks.

either way all these 4 stroker 1000s are amazing.

What I didn’t realize before I bought my sled was the ability to adjust the height of the front end by controlling air pressure in the shocks. Really helps for handling to lower the front end. Can still be done with the spring/shock combo, but won’t drop down like the floats.

We bought the wife a Vector GT and I borrowed my friends Nytro. That took the trails as smooth or hard as I ever needed to go. Which Apex would be a comparable ride to the nytro...I know probably comparing apples to oranges

If you are a big guy I would definitely stay further away from GT.....RTX sounds like the best ride for you..ask TOM,he just got one and hes a bigger guy too..he loves it.

BTW,RTX only comes one color...yellow/black.

LOL i hear that....I waited to buy my 06rtx last season till the 07s came out with brochures(mid feb 06) and when i saw the 07s with the yellow A arms I knew i wanted the 06....

Ill bet you might be able to find an 06 RTX new still somewhere.....IMO the best looking sled on snow!..lol

Well I got him on the phone I was wrong. He has the yellow black, and says the same thing....A arms are getting changed this summer to different color

We're only a few weeks away from the launch of next years models. I'd definitely wait until then.

Going off the assumption that nothing significant changes you'll be able to see what the new color schemes look like and cross reference rear and front suspensions with the previous year's models. If you like the coloring of the 06 RTX it can be found. The other night I saw a dealer from southern Illinios, almost to St. Louis that was unloading stock on ebay, he had an 06 RTX on there for around $6500.


Both suspenions would suit you pretty well for typical trails that get groomed, then beat up. I'm guessing you'd be happy with the mono coming from a late 90's machine. It rides like a Caddy in the lighter bumps. My uncle has goes about 270 and is very happy with his 06 RTX suspension compared to his 03 RX-1 suspension. The 07 RTX shines on ungrommed forest roads and really beat up trails.

I think the bottom line is that I would not buy a sled that I'm not going to be happy with, and for me a good part of that is going to be the way that it looks... I'd hate to stick 10 grand into something I wasn't completely happy with.

The other alternative would be to get an 07 RTX and change out the yellow. There really isn't much to change to go all black.
