Just an FYI to all the guys that gutted their exhaust. Because of the lack of back pressure, now granted this is probably going to vary according to where you ride, there is an issue with running way too rich.
Since gutting it, I've gone through two sets of plugs. Last year, none. I took it into the dealer and we're going to jet it at 130 after having an actual Yammie tech there and two other people that have good R1 motor experience. May have to be changed slightly after that, but we're going to start 2 sizes smaller.
For those of you that have done the same, just be careful and make sure that you're carrying some extra plugs :!:

Gilbey usually gutting your exhaust leans you out not rich. Again not much experience on sleds but quite a bit on bikes. If you went to an aftermarket exhaust you would have to fatten up your jets usually.

I agree, however, there's still back pressure. With an empty can according to all the guys that I've talked to, it affects it to the other side. I'm no expert on this by any means, which is why I got help from the dealer.
The only changes that I made over the summer was the exhaust. In narrowing down my search for what was wrong this was the only thing that it could possibly be because last year it ran perfect :?:

You're right, it does sound great. I just need to get the fuel burning better. How much did you gut? I removed all innerds to it. It's hollow. Glad I did it, just need to lean her up a bit.

I also gutted mine but due to lack of snow have'nt had a chance to run it. But I also agree that it would lean it out if at all. Keep us posted on your findings.
with the center of mine gutted i dropped one size on a sled that was alead too rich,,,, the plugs have a nice light brown color after 500 miles. only the center is gutted though. Down one size track speed went up 2mph

Mine was already slightly rich before hand too. I have noticed since gutting that it has lost some top end. I long tracked it to 136 over the summer and my assumption was going to be some loss of this but not 20mph via the speedo, due to both heavier track and a heavier quanitity of studs.
