Here are some options for the Hand warmer issues: I have been using Gerbing's Heated Jacket and Gloves for about 4 years now on Motorcycle's, ATV, and Snowmobile. I ride my Motorcycle all year unless it's snowing or raining.

On my Warrior I don't use the gloves because the Hand Warmers work well, but I do use the Jacket and it's great, especially on those long days when it gets well below zero. Even if you just purchased the Heated Glove Liners and a Heat Controller you can prevent a lot of discomfort and also use them in other Power Sport Applications. I can honestly say that it is the best accessory I have ever gotten! 8)

GERBING INFO:
Our heated glove liners are form fitting, designed to be worn under your existing gloves or mitts.
Our heated glove liners are wired to heat each finger and the back of your hands.
Lifetime warranty on the heating elements.
22 watts per pair$79

Heated Snowmobile Gloves

Heated snowmobile gloves designed exclusively for snowmobilers.
Very pliable, with soft leather palm and durable shell.
The lining provides breathable protection from water and wind.
Unlike heated grips, the glove heats the entire length of each finger as well as the back of your hand.
Silky fleece lining.
Velcro® wrist fastener and adjustable drawstring.
Plug the included harness into the 12-volt DC outlet, or portable battery pack, for 125 degrees of soothing warmth.
1.8 amps per pair $119

Thanks for the tip. Hot grips or not, those would be good for those -20* days.

I'll be damned if I'm gonna do anything except let Yamaha fix the problem :ORC
Is this how I'm rewarded for spending almost $30 grand in 3 years #$%&*

Can't blame you for being mad :o|

I'm just trying to help your fingers from falling off when it's -20 and your doing 100 MPH 8)

I was thinking about something like this.

Putting some mylar or insulating material around the existing grips/handle bar hooks, wrapping these heating elements around and then covering them up and holding them on with shrink tubing.

I pray that Yami takes care of this. I have never (four Polaris's) had to do my own thing to get something supported on my sleds in the past. I do not want to buy gauntlets, add my own homegrown heater strips etc. to get this fixed. Of course I will if I must to get through the season but that is not why I switched to Yamaha from another brand. I want a ride away product that is taken care of. This is my litmus test year for Yamaha so we shall see how things go. I had a couple of issues with my Polaris's in the past but they were addressed pretty quick by the dealer/Polaris (reverse gaskets come to mind). I will await the Yamaha response and go from there. I think it is cool to have as many technical folks, as this site has, to play around with possible solutions but at the end of the day I expect that the company will address this rather than my hack job. I envy you guys that have the time and know how to fix your own issues. I just want to ride and do basic PM.

Pretty sure they will fix it
but
no way they can get em all done (design a fix and get em in the pipe line much before february)
So all I am doing is looking for a $20 temporary solution so I enjoy my season

Your kidding Right, February..... How long does it take to figure out what it's goig to take to fix it. just give us a temp fix for this season and fix it properly in the new year, but just fix it. I don't think we need a redsign here. All other OEM's have these bars and none of them are this cold.

Tork, I just installed a set of those elements on my GT. I haven't hooked up the wiring yet, but I think they'll work great. They at least go the whole length of the grip. I took off the hooks and drilled out the rivets that hold the grips on. Then I took a coat hanger and made a very small loop in the end of it. I warmed up the grip with a heat gun (not a lot) and slipped the coat hanger underneath the grip and slid it in and out until the glue broke loose. After I got the grips off, I cleaned the bars and wrapped them with the elements. They peel and stick. I then used Griplock glue and reinstalled the grips. Other than the rivets missing, you can't tell they were ever off. You can't reinstall the rivets because the elements cover the holes. I'll be hooking up the wiring sometime this weekend. I'll put in a relay and a switch so they can only be on when the sled is running and the switch is on. I'm just going to use them as a supplemental source of heat when needed. I know some people might not want to hear this as a fix, but I ride 3000 miles a year and I can't wait for Yamaha to drag their heels on it. I'll be riding in below 0 weather in a few weeks. BTW, any of you electrical genuis's out there. I have 2 grips wired in parallel that are 7.8 ohms each. What size resistor would I need to be able to switch from high to low(maybe half of full power). If I can't figure it out, I'm just going to wire it so it's on or off. Thanks

This is interesting, found it on the net.

Hot Grips says they make the Yamaha heated hand grips.

Yamaha
The Yamaha Snowmobile grip is made by Hot Grips® and sold by Yamaha Motor Corp. USA. You can find them at a Yamaha dealer near you. Replacement parts ONLY can be sold by Hot Grips®. 8-15 watts.

If your Yamaha is model year 1999 or later , we need to know the color of the rigid plastic underneath the rubber. If the interior is red, the grip is designated "8ED". If the interior is white, it is an "88T". If the interior is black it could be either type and you will need to determine if there is a "STEP" (see picture below) to decide which to purchase.

Available in Black , Red , Blue and Purple
Order Part# 601S , 602S , 603S , 604S ,

I will send them an email and let you guys know if I get an interesting reply.
