I just ordered Sportech 45 degree hooks for my '05 RX1. Looking at reviews I see some have cut the grip heater wire installing these. Many years ago I put them on a Vector and don't remember having a problem. I realize you need to be careful enlarging the hole at the end of the grip. I think I used an exact knife before. Tech guy at Dennis Kirk thought I might have to remove the grip by drilling out the rivets holding the grip to see where the wires are. My dealer told me as long as I go straight in from end of grip and don't cut the end of the grip off I should be fine because the wires don't quite go all the way to the end. Has anyone out there installed these? Thanks for any reply!

Your dealer is correct. I used a dremel to slightly gring the nub off the end of the bars once the hook was installed.

I installed a set of Cat hooks on the bars of my 03 RX-1 LE. I don't know about the 05 but I could see the mold marks where the wires were when I did mine. I carefully shaved away the ridge on the end of the grip using a plain old utility knife and they've been fine ever since. That was more than a decade ago.

So I should be safe cutting out the rubber on the end using the small hole on the end as a starting point?

Easy yes. You can also run the blade around the edge of the bar for a clean line
Then dremmel to smooth out the flare of rubber.
I had to dill out end rivet to get the hook to fit in the bars.
They seem small but it does make your bars feel super wide... Awesome addition.
