Has anyone tried MBRP "Y" pipes?

Have got to do the dreaded replacement of the y pipes. mag side clamp had spun around, donut was pretty much gone (2nd set now) and the flange was cracked on the mag side. Pto was good but looking to replace all at once rather than tear this apart again.

I'm wondering if anyone has tried the MBRP or Excell y pipes or is it best to stick with the yami's?

Haven't tried either, but just replaced mine with Yamis. The updated stainless ones are only $90 each here in Canada - proly less in u.s., which I noticed is a lot cheaper than any aftermarkets. And being stainless, the cracking issues should be gone.

Good luck with the swap. Mine were so rusted in at the joint to the rear section, I had to cut the y pipe right in half with a torch. If you had it apart before, you'll proly be ok.

I replaced with excell y pipes, which are comparable to MBRP's. You get afew extra hp's with each. Whatever you decide, I would switch to SS ones.

Luckily I got it all apart

Are the new pipes from yamaha 8fp-14610-00-00 stainless?

I asked the dealer but could not give me an answer.

I just brought a post back to the top check it out

stainless y pipe questions

I read this the other night and wasnt sure if the new part # was stainless. After reading it again it looks as though they are. Thank you for re-posting that.

Hit me up with a link to the store that sells these for $90. I have to replace mine and I´ve had offers of second hand ones for $130-140 (USD)

PM me some links!

I have a set of factory ti ones, 200 shipped, they are turbo takeoffs and are in excellent shape.

not not sure how stainless is going to cure the donuts from loosening up. This is the cause of the damage. All those rx1 headers I have sold over the years were to replace stainless ones that did the same thing the apex ones are doing. It is more about the design of the clamp causing the issue which they never did change. It should have a spring set keeping steady pressure on the clam instead of the positive stop that is made onto it.

I have put clamps back on before with new donuts and after tightening them down, I can turn them with my hand. It is the clamp. also, some of the clamps dont touch the flange correctly, they pinch small points. When I do them, I make sure to either bend or grind them so they touch evenly all around. Then install them making sure the clamp is tight before the stop brings up. If it doesn't, I remove it and grind the stop.
I think some of the issue is that when some of the sleds are assembled, the clamps are just not clamping either enough or evenly or both. A better fitting clamp with a spring preloading it would have been a better fix but like most problems yamaha has, it keeps fixing things that dont matter, avoiding the real problem. Kinda like when your sled darts they just say it doesn't and keep making ski rubbers that make it worse.

also the new SS pipe with a deflector is joke. That little piece of nothin ain't keepin snow out! My dealer claimed that flange would take care of the problem. HA what a joke!!

I have copper donuts and I hope they cure some of this issue. This is how one guy solved the problem:

He did cut off the flanges from the y-pipes and welded new titanium pipes to it. Then he attached these pipes to exhaust joints with clamps. New titanium pipes are slightly bigger in diameter than original ones, so they slide over the exhaust joints.

Looks very well done, but I have a feeling the bellows will be cracking within 4000 miles.. Hope I'm wrong. Good Luck. Keep us posted. I'm trying copper gaskets the next time mine starts making noise.

I would like to know how he weled the Ti according to the mit professor to do it and have it hold you have to weld it in a barametric chamber flooded with argon gas thats why we just bought take offs and replaced them. I have been grinding down the stops on the clamps on the ones i have been doing and so far (fingers crossed) they have been holding up only got about 1500 miles on the one from last year and doing it on other buddys this year too. anyone have luck with this?
