I think they do like many speed shops - they don't entirely tip their hand.
Instauctions said to run it at 10,000-10,500 rpm all the while now it's becoming known that they must run at 10,600-10,800rpm.
I really noticed the difference at 10,600 - I have not tried 10,800rpm's.
I find these guys are not the most interested in causing to much competion for themselves!
Bottom line - their wall is full of trophies, and so is Billy's (Hauck's distributor in Kapuskasing Ont.)
I used to deal with Bender Racing - same issues, same experiences.
It was only after many hours of test and tune that I was able to make it run! Many would give up(actually I did last year)
But discussing this with Hauck this year (mentioning that I found how well it ran at 10,600) that's when they added you should see how it runs at 10,800!!! It was to late by then the pipe was out. So I agree in part with what you are saying. I used to like dealing with Bruce Kalhammer at PSI
We had some wickedly fast sleds - with our share of trophies! Their support was good, exact and no run arounds!
I still plan on re-installing this pipe and giving her one final go as I found the sweet spot's beginning and now believe 10,800 is where this thing needs to run!

Did you run haucks fuel box,as i was told i had to,i lost 2 mph on the gun,and i think we were running our attak at 10,600 w/timing key and stock air box. Plus had his speed sheave and windage plates on,blew the crap out of one belt, and gearing was stock for the attak, with a hacksaw 136 and 168 studs.Grunter said:gsxr said:EVERYTIME I GAVE HAUCK MONEY I WENT SLOWER !!

Thanks for your input mnmsnowbeast!
mnmsnowbeast said:Isn't your sled efi? I thought efi's were running a little higher than RX-1's rev wise? Hauck's recommendation (this year) was that I don't need the CDI unit altough they claim an additional 4-5 hp with it. But for an RX-1 to run good with the pipe it need's to run 10,500 with stock intake, 10,800 with filters!
My friends Apex's (stock) seem to rev about 10,600 to 10,800rpm.
Now I don't know if the rev limiter is higher on the efi sleds(I believe due to the cams used that they should be) so if this is true - have you tried running 10,800 or 10,900rpm yourself?
Just curious!
I've gone back to just the filters and Turk's clutching on the RX-1's in the clutching section(using the 89L weights) I love that set-up except for one thing(my fault possibly) I have not used 23-38 gearing like he recommends but simply stock 24-38.
my 05 used to get 126mph on dream meter but with nothing other than that clutching I got 132mph. Just this permitted me to sail past all stock Apex's!! The only thing I'll say is that slow speed drivability was impeded a bit with 24-38 but maybe would of worked with 23-38. we tried this set-up on the Apex - and it did not seem to work quite as good as on the RX-1!
Racing against other RX-1 was not even a contest anymore!
So I believe stock with filters, clutching and gearing is very hard to beat for trail. But I suspect that stock clutching is hard to beat for top speed long runs! (like 20 miles wide open throttle!)
My experience was that I would of gained maybe about 2-3mph with the pipe - but I did not test at same temperature and conditions! For -3 vs -15 - I find a big difference in the RX-1's performance. plus there was a bit of snow on the ice vs just a light powder and I got 129mph.
I can say on that day and have experience before a 5-6mph difference.
For me - I felt I had gained (at the sacrifice of bottom torque) but feel that the extra rev's would support a lower gear ratio choice now without the penalty of speed loss. So I can see this restoring low speed torque and getting more mid to top end acceleration .
I have not given up yet! Thanks for your feedback! Hope I could help you out!
