i went to the local yamaha dealership today, to see about getting the floatbowl upgrade for my RX-1M. they want to charge me for the upgrade! i didnt ask how much because it is suposed to be free. i think my warenty expired the end of february. does this matter? i heard someone in here say that they couldnt get it either, so they called up a diffrent dealership out of state and only had to pay for shipping. is anyone in that is in here good friends with a yamaha dealership and could get me and my dad a set of float bowls? i need two sets. my dad has a rx-1m too. thanks

The whole problem is that they suck air when going vertical. These sit down further in the bowl and don't allow that to happen. Yes they will fix the problem.

I think that is bull......I know of a guy that had his RX cut out on him climbing and he sued Yamaha and ended up with free sled. Call Yamaha and talk to them at 1(800)635-0736. Tell them this was a recall item and it needs to be done. Tell them you were riding it and it just cut out and almost killed you .....

i think its bull too! it makes me so upset i dont even want talk about them. i even told them i would install them and they still siad "its not a recall so you would still have to pay for them". has anyone called a dealership out of state and got the update?

I am friends with my local dealer and he invited me to the technical update seminar for the '03-'04 year after I snow-checked an '04. I don't believe that yamaha is referring to it as a recall, but I know that they manufactured enough of the bowls to replace all of the '03 and early '04 units' bowls. Yamaha was even paying the dealer shop time to do the replacement. The dealer had to provide the id number off of the sled and Yamaha would take care of it, parts and labor. I also attended the '04-'05 update and I believe that Yamaha may have been discontinueing the offer as they figured that everyone that wanted it done had done it by then. If your dealer won't help you, I think that I would contact Yamaha customer relations direct to see what can be done.

A month ago I talked to my dealer and told him I was really close to disaster when climbing a steep hill. When I got close to vertical my engine stalled and I could barely turn around. My dealer called me yesterday about the float bowls, he had called Yamaha and told them what I told him. Yamaha are sending him the float bowl update to install on my sled, at no charge. I guess it helps having a good relationship with the dealer. BTW - my sled is a '03 RX-1 121"

Everybody who is having problems with getting the float bowls might want to try sending a PM to Ray AKA spray25. His dealer was getting the float bowls for flatlanders in '03 when supposably they were only available for mtn sleds. His dealer might still be able to get you the updated bowls for the cost of shipment. Or you can try to contact his dealer directly. Here's the info; Hinson Power Sports McCall, ID 208-634-7007.
