I just switched over to Yamaha after 2 dissapointing Ski-Doo's.
I spring ordered the Apex ER and I decided after it was ordered to get the heavier rear spring.
I weigh 230 plus gear.
Do you think that will make any differance?
I am getting 96 studs put in and mirrors.
Any other suggestions?

I tried to adjust my Attak's suspension throughout the season. Including moving the c-clip. For the final 400 miles I rode I put on the heavier rear spring and now run my RA at soft thru #3 click. I have to say...I wished I'd done that from the get-go. Do it!! I think you will not be disapointed. Especially if the 07's are comming with the same spring rate as the 06's did. ( I'm 205 lbs before riding gear )

Yes it should make the difference..

I have the 5.5 on my GT and it does ride a little rougher but doesnt bottom like before

I just bought a new 06' RTX ER and the dealer recommned the heavier spring. He said with the heavier spring I will have the full suspension adjustment. I'm glad I'm doing this when it's new rather than bottoming out on a few rides...

Looking forward to trying it out.

How much is it for the heavier spring, and does the dealer sell them ? I weigh around 205 with clothing.

Call Kevin at Port Yamaha. He can give you the specs and pricing. (great guy to deal with) ;)!

I was going to go with the 5.5 on my GT but after talking with Bruce at Pioneer Motorsports I don't think it will be enough for my 225lbs without gear so I am going with the 6.2.

I'm 240 without gear and ride fairly agressively and can't bottom out my gt with the 5.5 spring when the shock is set right and it still rides great. The stiffer spring will also hurt your weight transfer...

RX-1 Liter I would also definitely recommend going with the 6.1 or the 6.5 Ohlins springs now being offered by Yamaha for the GT's. The 5.5 spring will help but from what I have been seeing and from my personal experience with mine it is just not enough for most riders looking for a more aggressive bump riding set-up. Here's a link to another post regarding info on the accessory springs offered by Yamaha for both the RA Monoshock and the Ohlins Monoshock.

I am really surprized that Bruce Schrader didn't tell you to also increase the dampening on this shock. Weak dampening+ heavier sping = pogo

I'm 215lbs dry weight and drivind a '05 and went w/6.3 and love it...what a difference.

My buddy has the same sled as me and ride together all the time,he weighs 170lbs dry.

once he tried my sled w/6.3 spring he couldn't get over how better the handling was...so guess what he did???

I still bottom out the odd time when the sled is loaded of snow & ice wich I think we should consider when calculating weight...I'm sure they load up as much as 25 to 40 lbs.

Make sure to mesure your sag...it should be between 1 1/4" to 1 3/4" very important that you dress up full suit and someone mesure it up.

exactly! i can understand heavy guys needing a heavier spring. but that increased rate needs more dampening! im only 175 and to stop it from bottoming i stiffened the stock spring and it was bouncy. lighter guys need a revalve for agressive riding and heavy guys need a spring and revalve for agressive riding. cranking up the r/a helps, but then the rebound is too slow.
