I wear glasses: first ride of the season was in very humid air, and the extra body English I need to use to get the Warrior around a corner had me fogging up glasses and visor badly, which then froze.

So, orderd prescription goggles from Pro-Vue yesterday, and now I need to look for a matching (motocross-style) helmet.

Usual concerns about fit (I use a Shoei X-II helmet on my motorcycle, HJC CL12 on the sled, and both fit OK). Not sure what Arai has available, but my old Quantum didn't fit as well as the Shoei.

The Shoei VX-R Air looks to be about the best one available, but I have concerns about the amount of air these things flow. It seems to have the good stuff with removeable liners, nose filters and so on.
Will be using the usual headsock / balaclava on cold days, and installing the tall shield on the Warrior. Anything else I should be doing?

Anybody else out there going this route and got any tips / recommendations?

I 've been wearing a HJC motorcross style helmet for 4 seasons now and love it.When it's real cold just have to make sure head sock has all skin covered.I will never wear a regular helmet again. When you first take off you will wonder how this thing is going to keep you warm but you soon get use to it .Lots more air flow then a regular helmet but no fogging up what so ever.

I switched to the HJC motocross style last season and I'll never switch back.... Always had a fogging problem with and without glasses with the regular style. I didn't want another wire hanging so i never tried electric shields. I used it in -15 F weather (not counting windchill) and never had a problem as long as the head sock is used... The additional air flow afforded by these helmets is great. The fit of the helmet itself was great.. Instead of prescription goggles are contacts a possibility??? It makes things a lot easier and then you can use just regular goggles. I use amber during the day and the clear ones at night.

RXHaller: do you wear glasses under your heated shield? I find that especially my right eye keeps fogging up. Using a face mask or even a headsock is also real difficult, as it just directs air up into my glasses.

Most days it works OK, but when it is humid things don't work as well. Also, I find I am working (and breathing) a lot harder on the Warrior than my previous machine.

As for contacts, my prescription is such that the eye doctor is not too hopeful about the things (astigmatism in one eye). I've used the weighted / hard versions in the past, but didn't have a lot of success with them.

Most reports I have seen on the Pro-vues are very positive. Snowtech claims they are the best solution for glass wearers, so I will give them a try.

What is this "head sock" of which you are speaking?

I wear contacts for riding, but would like the versatility of switching goggle lenses, and no more wire to fish through my jacket. I am curious as to how warm they actually are?

I have been wearing contacts with my HJC helmet for years. It works wonderfully. I have the CLX-4 helmet now with Turboflow goggles and a quick strap (the thing that sticks the goggle mount point solidly on the left side of the helmet and the right side has a velcro closure so you can take the goggles on and off instantly) they work great.
I would like something that covers my cheeks a little better when it's really cold. I have the small goggle extension that Smith (or is it Scott) sells. it helps a little but I could use more. I also use a head sock from Yamaha thet goes over my head with a silk type fabric and around my neck and chin there is a fleece type material. Good luck. PB

I Don't wear glasses or contacts, the wire fished through my jacket is no big deal at all compared to scraping ice off of my visor , and not being able to see

I have the same exact setup as powder blue minus the little extension i have the clx-4 cell helmet dont know if its any different with the little breath deflector and i never got cold once alot more air flow comes in where your mouth is.Just as they say make sure you get all skin covered.I wont go back to a full face helmet!

My cheeks? Which set  All kidding aside. They get frozen enough to leave them red for days or longer. This is riding in the teens and twenties. I can't imaginge riding with it any colder. I do need some GOOD way of covering my CHEEKS yet still allowing me to breath all that
FRIGID FORCE FED FRESH AIR! PB

I rode last year at 12 below zero in the UP always figured I would be very uncomfortable at those temps. Was not that bad it was cold but not unbearable.Every morning when I first take off I say to my self how do I stay warm with this on but 2 miles later all adjusted and ready to go.Have to say haven't had fogged up gogles yet. Can't say the same for the 3 full faced helmets setting on the shelf getting dusty.

I'm with you! My full faces are collecting dust too. It was always a losing proposition trying to keep them from fogging. I tried one with a breath deflector and it made me feel like I had motion sickness.
I swear by the quick straps. I wouldn't have a motostyle helmet without them. They are on and off in seconds and you don't have to pull a strap over your helmet and they are less than $20 for a set that matches your helmet. PB

I wear glasses on a daily basis and have owned many different full face helmets over the years. My last full face helmet is a ColdWave snowmobile helmet with double glass visor. It works well if weather is dry and/or not below 0F, visor stays clear but my glasses are fogging. I also have a snowcross helmet and facemask goggles, snowcross style. My glasses will not get fogged, but it is really uncomfortable wearing glasses underneat the facemask. My solution to this problem was to get contact lenses, it works great.

I bought one for this year, and I do have to say that I love it. I've got a heated visor for my normal, but tried the motocross style and not sure if I'll use my heated shield this year. I probalby would if it's as damn cold out as today though!!!
