Has anyone had any issues with their electrical system after installing HID lights?

I wanted to put some on my sled, so I asked the dealer if they had any experience with them. They said HID's would void the warranty (which I knew) but they also said a lot of sleds have been coming in with electrical issues due to the HID's.

Is there any truth to this?

BS , the Hid's use less power , should help the system send extra heat to the bars.

Depends on the HID setup itself. With a quality unit, I believe its more of a function of the wiring layout than a system fault. The ballast/ignitor sends very high voltage pulses to the hid bulb. If this wiring is run near, on, over the regular (low voltage) wiring expect some gremlins unless both wires are well sheilded, even then there are limits.
For example, many modern cars have electric power steering systems. I've read a few cases where the careless addition of a HID setup caused "unintended" steering inputs.

Buy the HID kit directly from the dealer, SledStart's kit "is" the Yamaha kit, how can putting on a Yamaha accessory possibly void the warranty? I'd find a new dealer.

Bought a digital (small) ballast setup off of Ebay two years ago, been running it ever since. No problems here. Typical dealer... They are just covering their a**. Can't blame them. They don't want any liability.

Can't see Yamaha voiding the warranty if you install the HID kit from their accessory catalog.

They really can't claim a warranty void if they sold the accessory to the user. There's enough HID's out there now that if they caused issues it'd be reported by now. HID's are very commonplace in all makes and models of sleds around here.....

I was in a local dealer earlier this year and the parts guy was showing me the turbo and supercharger that yamaha had in its catalogue and the funny thing was that they actually offer these items but it stated that it did void the sled warranty. However there was a warranty on the items themselves. FWIW.

I should also mention that I installed the HID kit on my sled this year, not a lot of hours with it yet, but I don't possibly see how it can hurt anything. As far as the sled's electrical system knows, the headlights are just drawing less power. Nice kit and I'm not worried.

The Kit i bought came right from Yamaha with a Yamaha Part Number.

They will NOT void your warranty if your going with our kit. They were tested and approved by Yamaha USA, Canada and Scandinavia and are in the 2011 catalogs.

If you need more info or have any questions you can contact me direct at 630-792-8910.

Some valid points were also made about the quality of the kit and the install itself. You do not want to use a cheap kit OR too HIGH of a K value bulb OR a 55 watt kit. They will be TOO bright when you are on a WHITE trail. Especially if it is snowing hard. Ever drive with your high beams on in a blizzard? It doesn't work!

You will LOVE the light from our HID's! They are great for a sled!

Also...I'm here if you need support or have ANY questions or concerns.

Happy New year! ;)!
