Hey guys , Im getting a lil frustrated with the hifax life or lack there of on my apex LTX GT after only 700 mile I replaced them cuz they were down to less than an 8th of an inch , which was no easy task ,,,, first that stupid screw needs to be heated up with a torch to get the blue locktite to loosen up then pulling off the old hifax was like a tug a war with king kong !!!! anyways , all that would be worth it if they laste say 3000 miles but after only one weekend and 200 miles later , what was a quarter inch worth of hifax quickly became an 8th inch and the snow wasnt all that bad ,,,and at one point my buddy thought he smelled something burning so i pulled over and had a hard time getting her going again cuz the fricken hifax stuck to the track clips , they got so hot ............Whats up???

Poor Yamaha design is the problem.
Upgrading your idler wheels to larger ones will help. Do it and be done with prematurely worn sliders.

Search "idler wheels" and be prepared to be overwhelmed with info on many individuals experiencing the same, myself included.

Or Not. Some disagreement on this ssubject is putting it mildly.

Most people change em way to early.

The first 5 mm goes away fast, then the wear pretty much stops if you ride on snow.

I have never changed hyfax on any of my 10 Yammies in the last 12 years. Some have gone over 10,000 miles before I sold them with the original hyfax.

If you are going to a larger diameter wheel, get the 2 bolt mounts or you may bend your rails.

If you can not slide a 11 mm wrench over them, they are fine. Run em, don't change em.

Currently on my 5th year with original Hyfax on my 06 Apex. 9,000 km on em. No plans to change em.

mine wore right thru to rails at the bend twice, then i installed FPS kit.

they will wear thru at bend and also between outer rears and inners....doesnt take much to wear them right thru....seen it many times.
