Wow......I regeared and got my clutching set right and man is it awesome! I have been in Atlanta all week just dying to get home and try it out. Went out this morning and it pulls like a b*tch! I do need to drop to a 68 tooth chain (my 70 is maxed), but I wanted to make sure I liked the new re-gearing before I did it. I also went to 70 degrees on the secondary. Totally happy now! Runs right at about 10,500. 2-stroke scary fast all the way through!

Wow, you actually gearer her shorter. Interesting, do you ride a lot of trail, trees, or climbing? Most mountain sleds gear to 2.0 or above, your at 1.86 not factoring your drivers.

You got me man? I bought a Hartman clutch kit and Tom told me I needed to go down on the top one tooth, so he sent me a 21. I say it's a 39 bottom, because it is covered up by the reverse gear and I can't actually see it. I am assuming it is. I ride all mountains here in the west. Deep powder, hills and boondocking. Try real hard to stay off trails and don't care about going over 85mph! Isn't it right to say you want more lower end torque for the mountains and deep stuff? All I know is it pulls pretty damn hard.

Aaron,
whats the # combination on the secondary for 70 degrees. I'm using 3 and 3 which is less than that. Was using 1 and 6 (90 deg?)but blew a belt there. Your in between setting is worth a try.

Mark, 1-6 is 70 degrees. That's what I am at right now. You would be at 60 w/ 3-3. Add the numbers together and multiply by 10. You would have to be at 3-6 to be at 90. That would be pretty steep! What are you running for weights and springs? I would try the 1-6 again. Maybe it was just coincidence you blew your belt.

Looking at the paperwork Tom sent, I see what you mean, it was very likely either a defective belt or not completely worn in, then overheated. 10 degrees I wouldn't think would make much difference to a belt, I thought I had started at 90 deg. The weights he sent are the 8DN-10, 13.9 inner, 10.3 tip, 47.1 grams Y-P-Y spring. I really like the way it engages now. The secondary helix is unspecified, w/ black silver spring. I sent the bad belt back to Dayco, but I see they still have not cashed my $6 check yet for return shipping, not sure if they will warranty it yet.

This identical belt has been going well at the 3/3 position so I'll crank it back up to 1/6. I felt confident Trillium lake was frozen yesterday and did some wide open testing. I am hanging around 10800 on the flats with 90-92top end. A little high in the rpms, but while climbing it will hang right at 10000. My gearing can't be too far off if 10300 rpm is supposed to be (or so I heard on the internet) about 85 mph at 2/1.

I'm ready for it to start snowing again, this hard snow hurts too much, though it has been interesting climbing stuff I couldn't touch when it was deep.

Mark

I think you would be happier at 70 degrees. I know what you mean about the snow. Went up to Bachelor this week and couldn't find snow that hadn't been ridden on. Pretty tracked up and hard! Maybe we'll get some new this weekend. Course now it -20!
