Filled out a similar question in a yamaha survey not too long ago. Thought it might be fun to see the horsepower demographic of this site. For the lucky ones who own more than one category, vote twice.
I think this site will be slanted toward the hypersled end of the scale and I'm curious to see if yamaha's latest offering and future offerings will move some folks off their yama-rockets.

Horsepower?

Riding an Apex now, but if I were to get a different sled, probably go with something in the 100-120 hp range.

With most of my riding on trails and some lake/river riding, that horsepower range is sufficient for me.

Funny how horsepower seems to be a big thing lately, along with deeper-lug tracks. And then we wonder why the trails get trashed so quickly.

On a nitrous RX1 with over 240 hp and I also feel that the 120 vector/rage new 130 FX would be perfect power. We have a vector and that sled is really really fun to drive. Quiet, torqy, and similar acceleration up to 100 as the big boys.

150+ hp all the way!

Man, the way you can just blast through slush, deep snow, and just pop the front end up when ever you want it awsome! Never going lower again, I want more!

Where hp gets dangerous is where inexperinced people rip through the trails and think they can drive. I have had so many people cut me off on the trails, and I had to take action to prevent accident, the other rider did not, and sometimes, you look back and they are in the ditch. This happened twice, once this year and once last year. Good thing the fast machines are expensive, it helps to keep the inexperienced from riding anything WAY past their level.

Currently ride an Apex, very happy with 150 hp. I wish that Yamaha would coome out with a sled for my 9 yr old. 40 hp in 3/4 size phazer. Do you remember how much fun you had as a kid riding that size of a sled? Thats why we are talking sleds in April. Secure the future of snowmobiling by making something fun for the kids to ride today.

Dont know why you would think that only experienced riders can afford the high horsepower machines. I know plenty of first time riders on the most powerful machines. I cant say I agree with these peoples decision because they could obviously learn on something not quite so powerful. But, to make a blanket statement like that is kind of ridiculous. :o|

My Vector has enough power for me but I won't be complaining about the added power of my new Nytro. Still, I really like the looks of that Ski-doo TNT that is a claimed 399lbs and has 106 HP. I would love to have a super light four stroke with 100 HP. The Phazer is close but the 14" wide track is too narrow for my riding area and style and I'd like a bit more power.

Maybe you are onto something with the race sled photos you posted. 100 HP class is a big hole in their line-up.

I have a Rage, it is 120 hp. I still have my edge 600, but I heard anywhere from 105-120 hp, so not sure on that sled. Yamaha just mailed me a survey on my buying experience and how I like the sled. I have no miles on Rage, so I can't give a opinion on it's performance, but I put 120 miles on similiar sled owned by my daughter. I don't know if will be as quick as my edge to 100mph, but probably higher top end, not that I need it. plowking

I have Apex and so voted 150 but really don't think of that as a hyper sled. I think of my self more as a luxury power cruiser who when he meets a Kid on a 6-800 with a million stickers and who knows how many mods can leave him in hte dust.

JUst for fun

I to find the 150 Apex about RIGHT!! But would use more, if more was offered:) I know of many people who can afford the hyper sleds and shouldn't own any more than a mini rev. The kid racers, and the outta control newbies make this sport dangerous! They only are thinkin of themselfs, not my family around the next corner. I seldom will take my young ones out on the weekends anymore, to many iddiots!! Thinkin snow!! Just got 8 inchs today! Goin ridin around the house! HONK
