i have the cover and grease seal removed, but i can't seem to be able to pry the bearing out. what is the trick to this? i understand that i should put anti-sieze on the drive shaft prior to reinstalling the bearing. is this true?

i dont see them. can you be more specific where they are? do i have to remove the toothed gear that i am assuming has something to do with the speedo signal?

ok i found them. i loosened but did not remove the set screws and the bearing still won't come out. do i need some special tool to remove them?

The two tork or set screws are on the inside bulkhead mounted on the bearing. (Track side) Loosen the tork screws and you may have to provide some force to break free. Are you replacing the bearing? Might as well if you are going this far. Bearing chould come out right through the clutch side wear you removed the cover plate. My bearing was so bad I had to use a propane torch to break free. Be carefull not to damage the chain case bearing. I would recommend removing the cover on the chain case and checking that bearing, adjust your chain ( hand tight) and change gear oil. Is your speedo working? Last season my bearing went and shaft moved and had to replace gear and speed sensor to get the speedo to work on my Viper.
Good luck and I hope this helps,
Blue

Did you remove both set screws? There are 2 of them, I would just remove them completely as you will reuse them in the new bearing. Spray some pen. oil in there as well. Don't beat on it too much or you'll damage the chaincase side. If you have a propane or Mapp torch that may help, just carful with the track there.

whenever i have a bearing i cant get off a shaft i cut a small notch in the race with a wizzer and split in with a chisel, takes 2 minutes and bearing will slide right off with your fingers

do i hammer it from behind( the track side)? i cant seem to get a tool or anything behind it from the clutch side

Yes it can be a bit tight in there sometimes, I find by just REMOVING A FEW THINGS it really seems to help a lot :jump:

Yup! just start hackin'.. You'll get it! (thanks Bounty)

It is only the speedo bearing that goes every 3-4 k correct? I have about 4 k on my 06 and plan on going through it this year. I am going to change all of the idler wheel bearings and the speedo. That should cover it?

Do I have this right that the speedo bearing is part #6 in the "Track Drive 1" schematic (at the site below)? Thx.
