Pull the skid, need to take off the seat and gas tank. The is two caps on top of the tunnel pull them out to get to the bolts for the clamps. Once you have them off and the 4 bolts at the back of the tunnel just pull the muffler out. Be a good time to check your donuts to.

I was able to get an open ended wrench onto the muffler clamp bolts and loosen them within the tunnel.
This saves the step of having to remove the tank and accessing the bolts through the topside of the tunnel.

Yeah drop the skid remove seat then PB blast everything then walk away and come back tomorrow. Then you can hit everything with an impact and all will be good.

I just mig welded my nytro muffler. It held up well. It had a couple spots that were double layed too. The problem I had was it was so thin it wanted to burn holes.
I can't believe you have to pull the skid to remove the muffler.
What kind of hp is gained from aftermarket headers.
I'm putting in copper donuts when I do this.

You dont have to completely remove the skid. I dropped the shock and removed the bolts in the back on the skid and let it down just enough to get my hand up in. You only need the skid dropped so you can get it back together. I think a 14mm socket is what you need to loosen the exhaust clamps under the seat. Then a dead blow and pop out she comes.

On my RX which is the same as the Apex. I removed the seat lifted the back of the tank up (did not remove it) propped it up with some short pieces of 2x4 to get the bolts on the pipe clamp's
I left the track alone and pulled the muffler out the back. I put it back together with the track in place. Lining up the pipes was simple from below.
Depending on the miles though you might as well take the tank out and inspect the donuts. Or go back in later when they start popping!

If you have more then 2k miles like sas said do your self the favor and replace them... if you have the $$$$ get a set of the copper ones and never worry about them.

Anybody ask themself why they have to remove the muffler? When I gutted my last sled I took the seat off and all the plastic around the muffler. With the muffler still bolted to the sled, It made for a much easier job die grinding a hole and cutting the crossover tubes out of the "guts" because it was fastened down so well. It might make a difference if you can't get your snowmobile near a welder but I was able to. I just cut out a hole in a large piece of cardboard before I welded the muffler shut to block any sparks. Make sure if you do this to pull the fuses and relays going to your battery so not to fry anything. Like I said, that is the way I did it and everything worked out well for me.

Because I needed to replace the donuts also. But you have a good point disconnect everything and go to town.

My welder does not have gas so it throws weld spatter everywhere. If I had gas I would do it on the machine. I'd like to put in a set of copper donuts anyway, and I was thinking of powder coating the rails and W-arm.
